Cursors and Anchors

While working with the drawing tools and objects, various icons and cursors are used to define grab / drag points (anchors) and cursor context.

The meaning of those shapes and icons is defined below.

Anchors appear on and around the object. Anchors can be moved to alter the size / shape or properties of a drawing object.

hnd_anchorpoint
All
Shows the Anchor Point of the drawing object. When rotated, the object is rotated about the anchor point. The Anchor point is displayed in the Transform Panel.
The anchor point can be moved by pressing and holding the Alt key (Alt) and the left mouse button and dragging this handle.

hnd_scale
Scale
When this anchor is dragged, the object is resized via the scaling properties.

hnd_resize
Resize, Perspective
When this anchor is dragged, the object is resize via the width and height properties.

hnd_rotate
Rotate / Skew
Then these anchor are dragged, the object is either rotated (corner anchor) or skewed (middle anchor).

hnd_autoshape
All
This anchor appears in the text and autoshape objects. For autoshape objects, it changes the shape of the object. For text objects, it changes the margins.

hnd_rscontrol
All
This anchor appears when the Reshape tool has been selected. This anchor indicates a control anchor.

hnd_rsnode
All
This anchor appears when the Reshape tool has been selected. This anchor indicates a vertex anchor.


Cursors appear at the current mouse location. The cursor icon changes to indicate when the object and anchors can be selected by pressing the left mouse button.

cur_anchor

The object Anchor Point can be selected
cur_resize
Select, Reshape

A scale or resize anchor can be selected.
cur_move
Select, Reshape

The drawing object can be selected for moving.
cur_autoshape
Select, Reshape

An autoshape anchor (auto shape object) or a margin anchor (text object) can be selected.
cur_rotate
Select, Reshape
with Rotate option

The object has been selected for rotation around the defined Anchor Point. See Rotate option for more information.
cur_trapesoid
Select, Reshape
with Rotate option

The object has been selected for Skewing. See Rotate option for more information.
cur_guides
Select
Used to drag and re-position the guides.
cur_reshape
Reshape
The item displayed by the cursor can be selected for reshaping.
cur_tool
'?' is an icon to indicate the chosen tool.
Motion Path,
Line, Pencil, Bezier, Text, Ellipse, Rectangle, Autoshapes

Used for initial placement and sizing of drawing object.
cur_pan
Pan
Pans the workspace.
