|
Outlook 2000 |
-
Click
Inbox.
-
On the Tools menu, click
Options, and then click the Mail Format
tab.
- Then click on
Signature Picker
- Choose NEW
and enter the name of your signature
- Enter the word JUNK into the text
area (this will be overwritten by the QUOTES program) and then click
OK.
- Decide for yourself if you want
the checkbox unchecked beside the option Don't Use When
Replying or Forwarding and then click OK.
- Outlook has just saved THREE files for
your signature. There is a TEXT file (Junk.txt) , a Rich Text File
(Junk.rtf), and an HTML file (Junk.htm). Outlook 2001 uses
the file best associated with the type of email the signature is called
for. When sending a text message to a newsgroup, for example, it
calls for Junk.txt; when you are sending an HTML email message, it
grabs Junk.htm
- These are saved in the location:
'c:\%windows directory%\Application Data\Microsoft\Signatures\ '
, using the same name as the one you entered.
- You must now
OVERWRITE each of the new files with a file created by Quotes so that
the insertion marker is put into the three files.
- In the system tray click on the
Q of Quotes.
- On the Quotes menu, click
Change Signature.
- Make the signature contain
whatever text you want, being sure to INSERT the quote
marker.
- On the file menu click, Save
as and navigate to the new files in the location as
described above, ie: C:\windows\application data\microsoft\signatures\junk , and choose the file type as Rich Text
File(rtf).
DO NOT IN ANY CASE TYPE THE
EXTENSION AFTER THE FILENAME. Quotes will(must)
insert it for you. When asked if you want to overwrite the
existing junk.rtf, answer YES. Repeat the
"save as" steps for file types "text" and "html" so that you
overwrite all three of the files that Outlook 2001 created.
Never type the extension, and always choose to overwrite the existing
file.
- Windows 2000 users be
aware that your signatures are stored in a different directory: 'C:\Documents and
Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\Signatures'.
This directory is hidden by default. Go to windows explorer and right
mouse click the directory, now uncheck the hidden attribute.
- Quotes is now ready to be
used.
Notes: If you use Word as your email editor no
signature can be selected, in stead you select a word template.
Quotes cannot attach to this template file because it is in binary
format. Of course the Quotes executable can be used as an automation
object, Word macro users can ask me for information how to include
Quotes in a macro (qliner@qliner.com).
