Attention:
The diskette drive is a very delicate device. Do not press
on the middle part of the drive.
Close the keyboard; then
reconnect all cables.

You can use
the CD-ROM drive and the diskette drive at the same time by
attaching the external-diskette-drive case to the computer.
Note:
For the 760E, 760EL, or 760XL, the external-diskette-drive
case (kit) is available as an option.

If the diskette drive is installed in the computer,
first remove the diskette drive from the computer:
- Make sure that no diskette is in the diskette drive.
- Open the LCD; then open the keyboard.
- Lift the handle on the diskette drive with the plastic
tape, and remove the diskette drive.

To install the CD-ROM drive in the computer, see
"Installing the CD-ROM Drive".
- If the following
diskette drive bezel is attached to the diskette drive,
remove the bezel.

Note:
The bezel shape depends on the computer model.

Install the diskette drive to its case:
- While holding the bottom of the case, slide the top cover
as shown (
), and remove it.

- Align and insert the front end of the drive (
);
then press on the shaded area (
) until
the drive snaps into the connector.

- Slide the top cover back on (
).

Attach the external-diskette-drive case to the computer:
- Attach the external-diskette-drive connector
to the external-diskette-drive connector
at the rear of the computer.

the external-diskette-drive case, see page

You can extend battery operation time by using
two battery packs installed in the computer at the same time.
A secondary battery pack is available as an option.
Before installing a secondary battery pack, remove the
CD-ROM drive or diskette drive from the UltraBay.
- Stop any running applications; then make sure the
CD-ROM tray is closed or any diskette is removed from
the diskette drive.
- Turn off the computer; then disconnect the AC Adapter and
all cables from the computer.
Attention:
To prevent damage to the CD-ROM drive or diskette drive,
make sure the AC Adapter is disconnected from the computer.
The CD-ROM drive and diskette drive are
very delicate devices that need careful handling.
Do not press on, drop, or apply any shock to the CD-ROM drive or diskette drive
while it is removed from the computer.

- Open the LCD; then open the keyboard.
Attention:
Make sure the security latch at the right side of the
computer is unlocked. (See step 2.)
|
- Lift the drive handle with the plastic tape,
and remove the CD-ROM drive or diskette drive.

- Pinch together both holes and
remove the spacer by lifting it up slightly.

- Place the spacer to cover the CD-ROM drive or diskette drive connector.
- Make sure the projected end
fits into
the opening

- Place the spacer onto the connector and then open
the battery connector cover.

- If the following front bezel shown below is attached
at the front of the computer,
remove the bezel from the inside
of the computer.
- Slide the lever
on the bezel to the right as shown.

Note:
Keep the diskette drive bezel for future use.

Install the blank front bezel on
the inside of the computer.
- Fit notch
on the lower portion of the
bezel into the catch at the bottom of the drive bezel slot
(
).
- Push the upper portion of the bezel into the slot until
it snaps into place

).
- Slide the lever
on the bezel to the left as shown

).

- Close the keyboard and reconnect all cables.
When Replacing the CD-ROM Drive or Diskette Drive |

Before you replace the CD-ROM drive or diskette drive in the UltraBay:
- Cover the battery connector with its cover.
- Move the spacer back to its original position (shown in
step 5).

You can use two hard disk drives at the same time
by installing a secondary hard disk in the UltraBay.
To use the secondary hard disk, you need to purchase
another hard disk drive and a hard disk holder.
Before installing the secondary hard disk, remove the
CD-ROM drive or diskette drive.
- Attach the secondary hard disk drive to the hard disk holder.
Attention:
The hard disk drive
is a very delicate device that needs careful handling.
Do not press on, drop, or apply any shock to the hard disk drive.

- Insert the hard disk drive in the hard disk holder so that
the slot
on the hard disk drive fits into
the projection on the hard disk drive.
- Press the shaded area
until the hard disk
firmly snaps into the hard disk holder; then replace the hard disk
drive handle
.

- Close any running applications on the computer;
then make sure the CD-ROM tray is closed or
no diskette is in the diskette drive.
- Turn off the computer; then disconnect the AC Adapter and

replace the drive handle

Note:
You can see the lamp on the secondary hard disk, which turns
on when data in the secondary hard disk drive is accessed, through
the diskette drive bezel.

- Replace the battery pack.
- Close the keyboard; then reconnect all cables.

diskette drive and its bezel (on the front of the computer)
can be removed to install different options in the UltraBay.
Some options may require you to remove the option cover
from the left side of the computer.
- Close any running applications; then make sure the CD-ROM

- Attach the new option cover that came with your
option to the side of the computer.

- Refer to the manual that came with the option
to install your option (and front bezel) in the UltraBay.
- Replace the battery pack.
- Close the keyboard and reconnect all cables.
