Who are H.S.Software?

Since the launch of our first reading game in 1983, we have established a reputation for producing programs which combine entertainment and education in such a way that children really enjoy learning. Our programs are in daily use in thousands of schools and homes, and our games have been recommended by many leading educational bodies, including the British Dyslexia Association.

What computers do you have games for?

All Acorn RISC machines (Archimedes/RISC PC etc.)
The BBC 'B'/Master128/Master Compact.

PC compatible computers and Amiga.

What sort of games do you produce?

We specialise in Reading and Spelling software, but we also supply a variety of games covering a wide range of National Curriculum subjects, including Maths, Science and Geography. Our games are great fun to play, and feature extensive use of colourful animated graphics, with many programs also using sampled speech to add to the enjoyment.

The wide range of options in each game encourages children to play again and again, learning new skills each time they play. Many parents and teachers have also found our games very useful for children with a wide range of Special Educational Needs, particularly dyslexic pupils.

Our programs are designed and produced by an experienced team of teachers, psychologists and professional programmers, to ensure that our games are not only entertaining but also effective in helping children of all ability levels to learn naturally, at their own pace.

Programs for Acorn RISC machines (Archimedes/RISC PC etc.)

All our Archimedes programs will run on any 1 Mb Acorn RISC machine,
except for "SENstore" which requires a minimum 2 Mb of RAM to run. The downloadable demo programs below have been compressed with "!Spark" (c) David Pilling. Once downloaded, they will need to be decompressed with e.g. "!Sparkplug" which is often distributed with magazine discs etc.

Programs for the BBC 'B', Master 128 and Master Compact:

Our BBC 'B' programs are available either on a 5.25" disc (which is compatible
with the BBC B+ and the Master 128), or on a 3.5" disc for the Master Compact.
