DeviceMaster 500Existing Installations: Linux Driver Before V5.03

Previous to the NS-Link Linux driver v5.03 and SocketServer v8.00, there were two versions of firmware that ran on the DeviceMaster 500, SocketServer and NS-Link.

With the release of v5.03 of the NS-Link driver for Linux, SocketServer and NS-Link have been incorporated into a single binary (.bin) file.

By default, once loaded, SocketServer shows in the web page until the NS-Link device driver begins communication with this particular DeviceMaster 500 . Once a driver establishes communications, the firmware indicates that it is NS-Link . The driver does not need to upload firmware to the DeviceMaster 500 or reboot the DeviceMaster 500 .

If SocketServer does not change to NS-Link in the web page, then the NS-Link device driver loaded in the PC/laptop is NOT communicating with the DeviceMaster 500 .

Note

Comtrol recommends uploading the latest version of SocketServer before installing the NS-Link driver or configuring SocketServer.

If you do not want to install PortVision DX, a DeviceMaster 500 application for Windows, you will need to use RedBoot to load SocketServer.

See the RedBoot Procedures section in the DeviceMaster 500 Installation and Configuration Guide for RedBoot procedures.
