In addition to
your PC's hardware, operating system, and software programs, you
will need to consider personal data files
that you create and use. Personal data files include documents,
spreadsheets, financial records, and other data that you have stored
(saved) on disk with a filename. Files that you create or use may
or may not be ready for the year 2000.
When dates are
entered with only two digits for the year, software programs use
something called "windowing" to
interpret the meaning of the century. For example, if you enter
"99," the program generally assumes that you mean "1999." Depending
on how the date window
is set up and understood by the software program, digits you enter
as "00" may not be interpreted to mean the century you intended.
