General Tips

See Knowledge Base article, "Determining Which Version of Internet Explorer You Are Using" for help identifying the version installed on your computer.

To view four-digit years, set the date formats in Control Panel Regional Settings to display four-digit years.

Web page HTML content, JSCRIPT, Java applets, server scripts, or controls may have year 2000 issues that are independent of the ability of Internet Explorer to handle dates.

Internet Explorer 5.0 - 32-Bit Windows (English)
Internet Explorer (Macintosh) 4.5 (English)
Internet Explorer 4.01 - 16-Bit Windows (English)
Internet Explorer (Macintosh) 4.01 (English)
Internet Explorer (Macintosh) 4.0a (English)
Internet Explorer 4.0x - 32-Bit Windows (English)
Internet Explorer 3.XX - 32-Bit Windows (English)
Internet Explorer (Macintosh) 3.XX (English)
Internet Explorer 3.XX - 16-Bit Windows (English)
Internet Explorer 3.0x - 16-Bit Windows (English)

Internet Explorer (Macintosh) 3.XX

Recommendation: Upgrade to Internet Explorer 4.01.

Date handling: Two-digit shortcuts (YY) for years may be interpreted incorrectly or may not be recognized as date representations.

For more information: See the Internet Explorer (Macintosh) 3.XX Product Guide document.

Internet Explorer 3.XX - 16-Bit Windows

Recommendation: Install Service Pack 1 for Internet Explorer 3.03. To request the update on CD-ROM call 888-673-8925 toll free.

Date handling: With Service Pack 1, Internet Explorer 3.03 properly interprets (1) expiration dates of Web site cookies with two-digit years and (2) HTTP/1.0 headers with "00."

Two-digit years 80 - 99 are interpreted to be between 1980 and 1999 and shortcuts 00 - 35 are interpreted as 2000 through 2035.

For more information: See the Internet Explorer 3.XX Product Guide document.

Internet Explorer 3.0x - 16-Bit Windows

Recommendation: No action necessary.

Date handling: If a two-digit year of "00" is used in a Web site cookie, Internet Explorer 3.0x interprets the cookie to be expired. Cookies with four-digit expiration dates are not affected.

If the two-digit year "00" is included in a HTTP/1.0 header, browsing of the Web site works normally while connected, but the site will not be available for offline browsing. HTTP/1.1 headers, headers with a four-digit year, or headers containing two-digit years before and after the year 2000 are not affected.

For more information: See the Internet Explorer 3.0x Product Guide document.
