This threw me for a loop today and I'm writing this partially for posterity and my own edification. Essentially what you have to check is the CHARSET of the tables, because there is a database default but each table can have its own. Thus if your database is utf8 (the usual) but your tables are latin1 (cp1252 West) then you will get the dreaded "Cannot add foreign key constraint".

I got an email today that my Twitch.TV account may have been compromised. I never created an account there and I dimly recall messaging them about it before. I did so again and received an email that said: "Hi Neil Obremski, You seem to be having an issue with accessing your account." Gaugh! So then I had the brilliant idea of, since they don't verify email addresses properly, to sign up for an account using their email address ... Me: "Uh oh, ConnectionInterrupted." Jeff: "Read closer." Me: "ConnectionInterrupted?" Jeff: "Try again ..." Recently I've been getting into listening to full albums rather than a lot of random tracks. I created a Python script to take a directory of MP3's and concatenate them into a single MP3 with the track name matching the album. However, sometimes it's hard to find the MP3's and there are actually a lot of full length albums on YouTube. Here is how I distill those into MP3 files ... |
