How SIREN Retrieves Song Information |
When an audio CD is inserted into the computer's CD-ROM drive, SIREN attempts to retrieve and display song information. Once this information is retrieved, SIREN places it in a local database for future retrieval and displays the artist, album, and genre in the Library Info Bar. In addition, SIREN replaces the generic track listing in the Play/Rip CD tab with song titles.
The SIREN CD information database: SIREN saves song information to this database for future retrieval, regardless of whether is is added manually or obtained from CDDB. When a CD is inserted, SIREN first looks here for information.
The cdplayer.ini file: Several Windows-based applications, including the Windows CD Player, use this file to store CD information. SIREN looks in this file for CD information, only if it is not available in the SIREN CD database. When information is added manually or obtained from CDDB, you can save the information to the cdplayer.ini file for other applications. To do this, choose CD Info, followed by Save to CDPLAYER.INI Now from the File menu.
You must configure SIREN's preferences to use the cdplayer.ini file.
The CD-TEXT on the CD: Some newer audio CDs embed song information as CD-TEXT. If SIREN cannot locate song information in its database or the cdplayer.ini file, it attempts to retrieve it from the CD itself. If SIREN locates this information, it stores it in the local database. You must configure SIREN's preferences to use this file.
Not
all CD drives can read CD-TEXT information. Check the CD drive
specifications of the CD drive before purchasing.
If SIREN is unable to retrieve song information using one of the methods described above, it displays generic track information. You can then add song information using one of the following methods:
Once song information is entered, SIREN stores it in its local database for future retrieval.
