Getting CD Information

If SIREN can access song information about a CD (either from the CD itself, or from a local database), it reads and displays this information. However, if this information is not available, SIREN can retrieve information over the Internet from the Compact Disc Database (CDDB). Once SIREN obtains information from CDDB, it is saved to a local music database.

Access CD information by choosing CD Info, then Get from the File menu, or by clicking on the Get CD Info button in the Media Manager panel

Prior to using CDDB for the first time, you must configure the music database preferences using the Configuration Wizard or the CD Info tab of the Preferences dialog.

What do you want to know about?

Accessing song information using CDDB

  1. Complete the configuration in the CD Info tab of the Preferences dialog. This provides specifications for SIREN's retrieval and storage of song information.

  2. Verify that the computer is connected to the Internet.

  3. Place a CD in the CD-ROM drive and click on the Play/Rip CD tab in the Media Manager panel. If SIREN is configured to automatically retrieve CD information, it is accessed and displayed.

  4. If SIREN is not configured to automatically retrieve CDDB information, click on the Get CD Info button in the Media Manager panel.

What to do if SIREN is experiencing problems connecting to CDDB

  1. Choose Preferences from the Options menu.

  2. Click the CD Info tab.

  3. Click Get Sites. All available CDDB sites are listed.

  4. Select a site and click Apply. SIREN will now connect to the updated CDDB site to retrieve CD information.

Submitting CDDB information manually

If you encounter a CD without CDDB information, you can submit information to CDDB. This information is added to the database and made available for future users.

  1. Inset a CD for which CDDB has no information and click on the Play/Rip CD tab.

  2. Manually enter the CD information.

  3. Click on the Submit CD Info button or choose CD Info, then Submit from the File menu. SIREN attempts to connect to CDDB and submit the information.

  4. If CDDB submission is successful, you will receive an e-mail notification. Anonymous users, however, will not receive notification of submission problems.
