Now that you have chosen an installation method, you have to specify a mode of installation.

You have a choice between: Installation (new system) or Update of an old Mandrake system.

In the case of update, all your old configuration files will be saved with the extension .rpmsave. For example, your old sendmail.cf file will be renamed sendmail.cf.rpmsave.

Important note: if you choose to update a RedHat 2.x 3.x 4.x or 5.x system, you risk not profiting from all of the power of Mandrake: for example, KDE will not be installed by default. Nevertheless, compatibility is assured and the installation has every chance of executing correctly.
