PRINTER SELECTION & INSTALLATION Quiz Master 5.0
-----------------------------------------------------------------
This selection allows you to create printer files and enter
all the printer codes. Follow instructions on screen when editing
print codes for complete instructions. We have included as many
printers as possible, if you don't find yours on the list you
must create one, or double check your printer manual to see if it
emulates a printer that is already available. The only thing you
may wish to use is the setting of 8 lines per inch (get more
questions per page) and 12 characters per inch. If you don't want
these features just choose the STANDARD.PRN printer, it should
work with most dot matrix printers.

select "Select Printer File". A directory window will appear on
screen and show the available printers. Highlight & select your
printer's name. If you do not see the name of your printer you
must proceed to "Printer Installation" to install your printer.
If you do not want to print the exam in Elite(12 Characters per
inch) or print 8 lines per inch, select the "STANDARD.PRN"
printer file and proceed to Page Layout.
4.2 PRINTER INSTALLATION
To install your printer (If it is not on the list) select
"Utilities" from the Main Menu then select "Printers" the select
"Create New Printer File". When prompted for the name enter the
an 8 character name for your printer. Then select "Edit/Add
printer codes", and the following screen will appear.

8 Lines/Inch ..............................
Elite ..............................
Printer codes for most printers are all different, including
the way the codes must be sent to the printer. There are two
methods, one for HPLASER JET printers and compatibles and the
rest of the printers in the world. We have tried to simplify
printer installation as much as possible to allow you to enter
the codes as shown in your printer manual. Shown on the screen is
a name entry and 4 set-up codes to send to the printer. The name
entry is for the long name of the printer, eg. HPLASER.PRN is the
name of the file the printer data is stored in and "HP Laser Jet
Plus" is the long name.

PRINTER SELECTION & INSTALLATION Quiz Master 5.0
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Method One : (all printers except HPLASER and Compatibles)
Printer codes start with a code, usually ESC then letters or
symbols and then a number. For example the Epson manual says the
code for Set/Cancel Near Letter Quality is ESC x n, where n is 0
to cancel or 1 to set. Enter this code as :
ESC,"x",1 (set) or
ESC,"x",0 (cancel).
(Notice the number is after the comma and not included in the
quotes.)
Some confusion may result as to when to put a number in
quotes. Usually all numbers following the ESC code will be put in
quotes, the number not to put in quotes is the number designated
as n in your printer manual, and it is usually the last entered.
Method Two : (HPLASER and Compatibles)
Their printer codes also start with ESC but if any numbers
are entered they are put in double quotes along with the letters
& symbols. For example the code to set Elite (12CPI) the HP
manual says ESC & k 10 H . Enter this code as:
ESC,"&k10H"
If there is a different code than ESC for the first code then
enter the ASCII number in decimal for the code. ESC,"x",1 is the
same as 27,"x",1 . Either method will work. In plain words the
number 27 is the equivalent of the ESC code in the Ascii chart.

4.2.1 PRINTER CODES
The Reset Code is sent at the very beginning and at the end
of the Print Routines in Quiz Master. It is usually the code to
reset the printer to the exact settings when it is turned on.
The Initialization Code is sent at the very beginning of the
Print Routines in Quiz Master. It can be any code you want the
printer set to through out the printing of an exam. It is usually
a command to set Near Letter Quality, etc.
The 8 Lines Per Inch setting is sent at the very beginning
of the Print Routines in Quiz Master. It can be any code you want
the printer set to through out the printing of an exam. The only
difference is that you must select 8 Lines Per Inch Printing On
in the Page Layout Settings to have the code enabled. Also be
sure to increase the number of lines to print per page to 80.
The Elite print code (12 Characters per inch) is sent at the
very beginning of the Print Routines in Quiz Master. It can be
any code you want the printer set to through out the printing of
an exam. The only difference is that you must select Elite
Printing On in the Page Layout Settings to have the code enabled.
Also be sure to set Left Margin to center the printing if
desired.
If you are having problems review the existing printers on
the disk to see how they were entered. Be careful about lower and
upper case lettering. Enter as designated in the manual paying
close attention to case.
Codes are sent as follows:
Reset Code
Initialization Code
Elite print (If toggled On)
8 Lines Per Inch (If toggled On)
{ Exam printing }
Reset Code.
