BRIEF SUMMARY OF EVENTS
-----------------------
Solar activity was low today. Region 6873 (S24E37) produced a class
C5/SB flare at 20:22 UT, which turned out to be the largest x-ray event of
the day. This region experienced growth today in H-alpha and in white-light.
Most notable was the increase in penumbral growth in the leader spot complex.
This region is capable of spawning isolated M-class flares. However, most of
the activity should remain confined to C-class levels.
Region 6871 (S12E24) grew rapidly during the day today in both spot
count and spot area. It managed to produce a few subflares, although nothing
significant in x-rays was observed.
A single region was numbered today: Region 6878 (S20E68).
Geomagnetic and auroral activity was quiet to unsettled today.
Conditions should continue near quiet to unsettled levels. There is a slight
chance that conditions may become elevated to unsettled or slightly active
levels associated with a filament disappearance several days ago. We do not
anticipate anything very influential, although a slight increase is possible
if a disturbance from that event arrives. Otherwise, generally quiet to
unsettled conditions may be expected.
HF propagation conditions have been normal to above normal over many
middle and low latitude regions today. Conditions should continue normal to
above normal over the next 24 hours.
