OCR: Deeply D: Yep, sure is. Pack 2, which I'm supposed to be putting together right now, will have some hi-rez art in it. We are trying to cover pretty much every viable medium out there. Our hi-rez dep only holds 2 artists right now but that will change as time goes on and we decide on who we would like to help out. Our music department is unmatched by any other group in the art scene today, and is also a force to reckon with in the demoscene. ALT-176: Which artists in Twilight should we really keep an eye on for some extraordinary ansi art? Who are the Lord Jazzes and Marshal Laws of Twilight? Deeply D: oh oh {grin} ALT-176: Without pissing any of your members off, could you answer that question? (laugh} Deeply D: Welp - ack - I don't wanna' play favorites, but if I were to choose, Grimlock is coming back this month with a pic that will make you shiver and wish you could draw like him. Of course snake grunger, and I've seen a beta of IllusionX's next ansi and it is also mind numbing . We have A LOT of good artists on the verge of becoming great, that's what's so exciting cuz nobody in twilight is at their peak yet. So the future is looking very good. ALT-176: Of those 3 guys .. are they copying from comics, or is their work a little more original? (that they can get copyrighted without being sued. {laugh} ) Not that there's anything really "wrong" with copying comics, when it comes to ANSI, since that's just the way 90% of the scene has done it for years. Most of the best ANSI art I've seen over the years has been copied from comics or books, etc. Deeply D: Nahh. They all "copy" {shrug} the way I look at it, whether it be taken from a comic book, CD cover or landscape. All ansi art is equal. It's all about one person's view of the subject - like if I drew a pic and you drew the same one, I garantee you that both pics will be very different in shape, size and shading; and then there is the execution of the ansi medium which plays the biggest factor. ALT-176: BBSes seem to be dwindling in number no matter what area code you're in; more people are getting on the internet - what do you see for the future of ANSI art? (if you see where I'm going with this .. ) Deeply D: yeah ALT-176: Personally, I'm just so surprised that ANSI art is still so alive in the scene. Surprised as I am, I'm also very happy about it, too. I remember about 3 years ago, Shihear Kallizad tried to convince me that BBSes wouldn't exist in two years (by 1995). I knew he was way off with his date of "bbs death," but I think he could see what was happening . Deeply D: Shihear . . what a tool. ALT-176: I never did get along with Shihear. Deeply D: He's O.K when you're in his group. : ) I've heard alot of talk about ANSI's eventual death and that you can't get a job by doing ANSI. Ok, 1st thing: anybody who joins the scene as a means to make a career out of it is just plain dumb. ANSI will never die out cuz its not about money or jobs its a hobby the fun you get out of ANSI is looking at the stuff being released and then realizing with what it was drawn - stupid little blocks fitted together to form pictures that can be truely .. As long as there are people who enjoy a challenge there will be ANSI ALT-176: I agree. I've heard people trying to use "You can't get a career doing ANSI !! " as an arguement. All I'd say in reply is, "You can't get a job playing computer games, but people will do it anyway!" As you know, it's not about eventually making a career out of it. It's about doing art for art's sake. Deeply D: There you go .. art for art's sake ALT-176: But it just seems unlikely that ANSI will still be as big as it is now, 5 years down the road - considering that the majority of ANSIs made, are made for BBSes that use ANSI emulation. Deeply D: Ack! ALT-176: Once ANSI emulation is no longer used like it is today, I wonder how rare ANSI Art will become. Deeply D: You forget my friend. Telnetable boards - easy to set up and less costly than having a web site set up with all the stuff a board can do. The web is fine and dandy but anybody can access it and hack into it by getting into the shell. {continued . . } 15
