Software Creations
The "Home of Authors" BBS has just released two new and exciting
games. I will review them separately, but a few words about the
authors. Squarez Deluxe! was created by Adam Pederson and Jason
Blockowiak. Jason, who has also co-authored Trivia Shell, has
released Night Raid. Both of these games, as well as all the other
games from Software Creations, can be registered online by calling
SC BBS and opening Door 5.
Squarez Deluxe!
This is sort of a futuristic Tetris-like game. Instead of the pieces
dropping, you have to move them upwards and/or left and right. You
can rotate pieces. However, you are timed and must place the piece
before time runs out.
The object is to create 3 by 3 squarez out of the pieces and thus
having them removed from the game, and keeping your area clear. One
or two people can play at the same time.
There are bombs, missiles, and hazardous chemicals in various pieces
to contend with. Strategically placing these can help or harm you.
It all depends on the placement. As I mentioned you are timed, so it
is a quick thinking game. You cannot dawdle. Squarez combines action
and strategy.
Squarez Deluxe! uses 256 color VGA graphics, and supports
AdLib/Sound Blaster. Registered owners receive more graphics, new
backgrounds and new sound effects.
Software Creations
presents
Argo Games'
Night Raid
You are stranded on a lonely desert. You are in a anti-aircraft
bunker. The enemy is flying over, dropping paratroopers bent on
infiltrating your bunker, and destroying you. You aim as they fall
from the sky. More and more keep coming. The pace increases. Smart
Bombs are coming in. Can you handle the pressure? Can you survive
wave after wave after wave?
The graphics and sounds of this game are excellent. These games are
bordering on becoming commercial software. They are that good. NR
supports 256 color VGA, sound cards, and multi-channel digital sound
effects.
Night Raid requires that you have at least 535K free memory to run
the game. The shareware version comes with 4 assault waves. The
registered version comes with 11 more waves. Each wave is more
difficult then the last. Knowing this, the author has placed an
intermission between each wave. It allows you to catch your breath,
eat a pizza, use the outhouse, and many other surprises.
Each time you fire, a point is deducted from your score. However, if
you hit a paratrooper, his chute, a plane, or smart bomb, you gain
points. Do not let 3 or more paratroopers be on the ground at the
end of a wave. If you have two or less, you will see a spaceship
come by and reclaim them. They may even hold a discussion in
Martian. You hear all the sounds, from the planes and the gun
firing, to music throughout the game. After the third wave, the
enemy introduces smart bombs. These bombs are aimed for your bunker
or the ground surrounding it. If it hits either, you are doomed. You
MUST destroy them before that time.
I have played the registered versions of both games, and enjoyed
them more than the shareware versions. There is much more in each
registered program. Night Raid contains more levels, more
intermissions, more planes and bombs, faster action, and so on.
These games are well worth the price.
Both of the games are available on many BBS. You can ALWAYS get
these, and all other Software Creation releases, direct from
Software Creations BBS. Even first time callers are permitted free
no-ratio downloads of all SC games on their first call.
