Flight Yoke
2001
by Tony Curro
Everybody loves a winner. This is no exception. Winner Products has
been producing innovative products in the US since 1981. It was the
first company to make a mouse for Commodore and Amiga systems. It
was also the first to develop a mouse that was both Microsoft and
Mouse Systems compatible. Now they are the first, and only company,
to develop a Flight Yoke with Throttle and Rudder controls in one
unit. The Flight Yoke 2001 is for IBM PC & compatibles.
Installation is one simple connection to your game port. Many sound
cards, and serial cards have a game port option. If your card does
not have it, you can also buy an inexpensive Game Card also made by
Winner.
Yoke has suction cups on the bottom of the unit, and comes with a
clamp to secure it to a desktop. The fire buttons are on the top of
the yoke. The Throttle, Rudder, and X and Y axis knobs are on either
side of the housing within easy reach.
I tested this with Car & Driver. Pushing in on the yoke increased
speed, while releasing it decreased speed. Pressing the right button
allows you to upshift, and the left button downshifts. The steering
is very sensitive, and too sharp a move to either side can get you
in trouble. After the first two games I got the feel of the controls
and have been able to make the sharpest turns with ease. Flight Yoke
is very quick to respond to your movements. It does not take much
practice to get the proper feel of it.
Along with the above products, Winner also makes Trackballs, mice
with and without cord, joysticks, and even gamepads for Sega
Genesis, Nintendo, etc.
I highly recommend this product to anyone who plays racing,
submarine, flight simulator games and the like. With a name like
Winner you cannot lose.
