Hello everyone,
After living in Holland for 6 months, I have just managed to locate a store
that sells homebrew supplies. I can finally start brewing again!!
Anyway, with the ingredients I still had on hand, and the ingredients I
bought, I think I have a good stout in the making.
Is anyone else out there brewing in Holland, or in Europe? I would definitely
like to find someone out there who can discuss different ingredients and
suppliers that are available here. As it is, I have a hard time trying to
figure out if I am purchasing what I think I am purchasing. Does not seem to
matter, as I tasted the beer when I transfered to secondary and it was
great!!. Also, good hops are not to be found at this store. All they had was
some leaf hops that looked pretty old packed in thin plastic bags.
I also used one can of Brewferm Trappist Malt in the stout. Does anybody
know if this is a good brand? I started to make a trippel, but I got
concerned (not w*rried!) that the yeast on the can would not be good and I
know to make a good trippel you need belgian trappist yeast. I thought about
using a chimay for a started but I did not feel up to the task of trying to
culture yeast. Maybe next time. Anyway, thats why I am making the stout.
I have a total of 9lbs of malt in this batch, O.G. 1.072, when racking to
secondary 1.024. It looks like this beer is going to have some kick. I have
been calling this a stout, but now that I think of it I really do not know
what to call it. Let me give a list of ingredients, and maybe one of you will
know what to call it.
2 kg Zwart (black) DME, 1 kg Donker (dark) DME
1 can Brewferm Trappist Kit, 1/2 lb Black Barley (before boil)
1/4 lb Black Patent (before boil), 1/4 lb Chocolate (before boil)
1 oz Cluster (in boil), 1/2 oz tettnang (2 min
before in of boil)
Thanks in advance and congratulations on having such a great conference!
