Although I've only owned my Alinco DF-F1T a couple of months, I'm extremely
impressed with the radio. To me, it embodies all the desirable features of
an HT...plus a few. The important features include: 1) Ease of use, 2) small
size (it's only slightly larger than the IC-2SAT), 3) Large memory capacity,
4) Large battery capacity, 5) Out of band receive, 6) AM aircraft receive!
Even with lots of features, it's easy to use. Frequencies can be directly
entered from the keyboard. Storage and retrieval is straightforward, without
"double-punching" any keys or other obtuse requirements. The standard battery
is 700 mAHr, giving 2.5/1/.1 watts. A 12v battery is available for 5/1/.1 w.
It can also be plugged right into your car's 13.8 vdc, without the ridiculous
need of a custom accessory cable like many HTs. The audio is much louder and
clearer than most HTs.
If I have any gripes, it's Alinco's continuation of "Japanese-English"
manuals and advertising. They should get an award for the worst ad of the
year. For example, it doesn't say in the ad that PL/CTCSS is built in; DTMF
paging is standard, as is a 4-digit DTMF decoder/display; Power is switchable
between 3 levels.
This is, without a doubt in my mind, the most radio per dollar ever built.
In fact, I see messages for USED radios where the seller is asking within
$20-30 of the price of the DF-F1T new! Would I buy another? I'm saving up
to buy a second one now! I heartily recommend this little radio.
