Thank you to all that responded to my request for Alinco information. The
response was tremendous, and continues. I could not respond to so many replies
so I decided to send thanks in the form of a B+.
I have found that the majority of Alinco owners are pleased to very happy
with their Alinco purchase. I was asking about two specific models, the
DJ-160 and DJ-560, but received information on many other models as well, for
which I am pleased.
The biggest gripes on the DJ-160 were the sound of the speaker, the way the
external speaker mic connects, and the instruction manual. he external mic connects with a 'Y' type of cord because the speaker connection
and the mic connection are not side-by-side on the radio.
Most of the replies were very happy with the radio, and some said they would
buy another. None of the DJ-160 owners up to this date have said that they
sent their DJ-160 in for any repairs. One said their buttons were sticking
but thought it was because of something being spilled on them, (this radio
was subject to continued use/abuse for two years according to the owner, and
they were very pleased with it). Some said that the battery on the DJ-160 just
dies with no warning, and there is not a quick charger available from Alinco,
so it takes 14hrs to charge. (not a problem for most of us tech people).
The DJ-560 owners were also very pleased for the most part. They liked the
price, the extended receive in both bands, easy modification... Also the
external speaker mic connection will take an Icom speaker/mic directly.
I did not get any complaints aboutthe sound of the speaker on the DJ-560.
Most everyone was pleased with it and would buy another.
Now for the bad replies: Only a few replies were very- very bad. I mean a
total of about three out of 40. These people had complaints that ranged from
very poor receive (two agreeded on this), but more than ten times that many
spcifically said the receive was very good if not the best of all their HT's.
I don't know what you would think, but I think they got a lemmon. One person
said that he returned to radio for a replacement three times, and finally
made the dealer sell him a different radio because he was never pleased with
the receive of his Alinco HT.
As far as warranty goes- a few of the mobile owners said they had a problem
with their mobil. Some in warranty and some out. They all said that Alinco fixed the problem for no charge
and a few thought the return was prompt. (less than two weeks).
The mobile owners all either loved their Alinco or liked it very much. No one
expressed any regret. A lot of the mobiles were being used for packet.
I also hunted down Alinco owners on the repeater, and found that the Alincos
that I heard were sounding very good. I even heard a couple of the Alinco
DJ-120T's, their bottom of the line 3-watt HT, and it sounded every bit as
good as any mobile on the same repeater.
I did buy an Alinco DJ-160 for under $240, but have not received it yet.
I hope someone has found this information helpful as I did all the replies.
If you have any specific questions just send me a packet message, and I will
reply promptly. Someone did keep all the replies I received, and they keep
coming every day....
