  6.             The second major reason for calling a bbs is  to  use
  7.             the  message  basis.   A  reasonable amount of topics
  8.             should be made available by the Sysop, depending,  of
  9.             course, on the nature of the specialty of the board.

  11.             NETS are a way to bring in a lot of conferences...but
  12.             if  you  have 400 Conferences with 98% of them having
  13.             0-5 messages in them....what is the point!   I do not
  14.             have networks on my board, nor will I.  I want people
  15.             in the area, conversing with people in the area.  But
  16.             that is because my  theme  is  building  a  community
  17.             spirit  in  Tidewater,  VA.    I really don't want to
  18.             talk with anyone from Oregon, for example, if most of
  19.             the conferences is filled with out of state messages.
  20.             The idea is to  get  local  people  involved,  in  my
  21.             humble opinion.

  23.             I offer about 80 conferences on my board ranging from
  24.             conferences  for  your  pets,  to  adult conferences.
  25.             There is a little bit of something  for  everyone  in
  26.             the  family.   But  that  is  my theme.  If you are a
  27.             speciality  board...then  your   conferences   should
  28.             reflect that idea.

  30.             Whether  to restrict conferences is up to you and the
  31.             different security levels  on  the  board.    I  have
  32.             TEEN  conferences that no adults are allowed in.  And
  33.             teens cannot into certain  general  conferences  that
  34.             are geared mainly for over 18 people.
