  3.                             GET SOME IMAGINATION
  4.  
  5.             It definitely takes imagination to construct and  run
  6.             a  board....but  it  doesn't have to take TONS of it!
  7.             Anyone with  an  once-and-a-half  of  creativity  and
  8.             imagination  can  put  up  a  board.   What  it takes
  9.             equally   as   much   of   is    perserverance    and
  10.             stick-to-it-ive-ness.   Once  everything is in place,
  11.             you gotta KEEP it in place and running.

  13.             You need to decide a couple of things right  off  the
  14.             bat.  One is what kind of board do you want to be.  A
  15.             general  board,  period.  A general board, with Adult
  16.             Areas.  A totally Adult Board.   A  special  interest
  17.             kind of board with a very specific purpose.

  19.             Then  you  need  to get some people to work with you.
  20.             Don't try to do it alone.  Get a couple of  CO-SYSOPS
  21.             to  help  get  the thing up and running.  Assign them
  22.             specific tasks, like specific conference sysops -  to
  23.             monitor   and  maintain  heavily  trafficked  message
  24.             bases.  A file sysop, if you are going to be  dealing
  25.             with  a  lot of files.  In fact get as many people as
  26.             you can helping you...delegate  your  authority.   At
  27.             one point I had 6 co-sysops on my board.

  29.             O  yeah!   Even though you have co-sysops...only give
  30.             the MASTER SYSOP Security  Level  to  yourself.   The
  31.             Sysop   Access   has   plenty  of  features  for  the
  32.             co-sysops....but the ultimate authority on the  board
  33.             and  the  most  power  should  be  in   one   persons
  34.             control..and that is YOU the CHIEF!!

  36.             Have a staff meeting on a regular basis.  I have mine
  37.             the  first  Thursday  of  every  month.  It is a good
  38.             point of reference for everyone involved, and you can
  39.             track the growth of the board that way.

  41.             Be  as creative as you can with your screens.  I have
  42.             customized all of my display and menu  screens.   The
  43.             generic  Wildcat  screens are ok to begin with but it
  44.             is much more attractive to have screen that come from
  45.             the very board itself.  If you  are  not  a  creative
  46.             ansi  or RIP artist find someone on your board who is
  47.             and draft him/her  into  being  your  Graphics/Design
  48.             Artist.   I  have ANSI / RIP Menu and Display screens
  49.             available for distribution on  my  board.    TTS  BBS

  55.             towel.   Remember YOU are the MASTER of the board, it
  56.             is not meant to master YOU!  DON'T  become  an  MODEM
  57.             ADDICT, just a modem-enthusiast!  Hehehe!  There IS a
  58.             difference!
