  1. IRTS News for 3rd April 1994

  3. NORTH COUNTY ARC
  4. ----------------
  5.    The AGM of the North County Radio Club EI2NCR was held
  6. in the club's rooms on Tuesday 1st March. There was a full
  7. attendance of members.
  8.  
  9.    In his address, chairman Jeff Walsh thanked the members
  10. for their support during the year, and especially in the fun
  11. weekend under canvas last May, when the weather was so terrible.
  12.  
  13.    During the meeting it was proposed to improve the antenna
  14. system at the club during the summer, and to commence further
  15. equipment building projects in September, with emphasis on
  16. a frequency counter, which would be available for use by all
  17. of the members. It was decided that the fun weekend under
  18. canvas will be held in the weekend of 28th/29th May. More
  19. news to follow in a future bulletin.
  20.  
  21.    The following officers were elected for the coming year:
  22. Chairman Michael Doyle, Secretary Gerry Fitzgerald, Treasurer
  23. D. McGonagle, Projects Manager Joe Cleeves, Outing Manager
  24. J. Keely and P.R.O. P.O'Neill, who will regularly update the
  25. news editor with items over the next year.

  27. CORK ARC
  28. --------
  29.    Cork held their AGM on Tuesday 22nd April. Chairman Brian
  30. McCann, in his address, in his address thanked members for
  31. their support throughout the year. Having held the post for
  32. the last two years, Brian decided not to stand for re-election,
  33. and to make way for new blood.
  34.  
  35.    The following committee members were elected: Chairman
  36. Anthony EI2HY, Secretary Dick EI6HH, Treasurer Tony EI7DBB
  37. and committee members Vincent EI7HN and John EI4EYB.
  38.  
  39.    The Jasper Swanton Memorial Trophy was awarded to Con EI7DJB
  40. in appreciation of his work and organisation of the Cork Radio
  41. Rally in the Blarney Park Hotel.
  42.  
  43.    In his address the new Chairman, Anthony, stressed that
  44. his energies would be put into making the club more active,
  45. and he promised the establishment of a packet station at the
  46. club's premises as well as amateur video shows and a HF Station
  47. On Air night. A brief discussion took place about allowing
  48. the Cork Packet Group to run a workshop at the club's premises,
  49. but an insurance problem will have to be overcome before this
  50. project can go ahead.
  51.  
  52. YOUTH IN AMATEUR RADIO
  53. ----------------------
  54.    Network 2 will provide a five minute slot, with Emmet Caulfield
  55. EI7HF promoting the idea of youth in amateur radio, during
  56. the Joe Maxi programme to be aired on Wednesday 13th April.
  57. The item was filmed in Derek Peyton's shack early last February.
  58. Special thanks to Tony Stack EI2GX for organising the promotion
  59. with the production staff of the Joe Maxi programme.
  60.  
  61. LIMERICK ARC
  62. ------------
  63.    Limerick held its AGM at the Limerick Inn, on the Ennis
  64. Road, on 6th March.In his address the Chairman, Dermot EI2GT,
  65. thanked the many individuals who had contributed to making
  66. 1993 a successful year for LRC. Dermot outlined the many
  67. activities held over the last year, which included DF Hunts,
  68. AREN activities, the Club Quiz and many demonstrations.

  70.    The following committee were elected for the coming year:
  71. Chairman Dermot EI2GT, Secretary Finbarr EI3DWB, Treaurer
  72. Tony EI2AW, and members Brian EI9AL, John EI5EOB, Eamon EI5AJ
  73. and Liam EI4GB.
  74.  
  75.    The meeting continued with discussions regarding improvements
  76. and modifications to the Limerick Repeater service. Several
  77. options were discussed, one of which will be followed up in
  78. the near future.
  79.  
  80. REGION 4 AGM
  81. ------------
  82.    The Region 4 AGM, as is traditional, followed the LRC AGM.
  83. The IRTS President, Tom EI2GP, summarised the Society's activities
  84. during 1993. Club reports were given by Alan EI8EM from Clare,
  85. Jess EI9GX from Galway Experimenters and Finbarr EI3DWB on
  86. behalf of LRC.
  87.  
  88.    AREN activity was discussed, with a suggestion from Tom
  89. EI3HH that a liaison should be struck with the Civil Defence
  90. service in the Limerick catchment area.
  91.  
  92.    Thanks were tendered to Tom for his CW News Service transmitted
  93. every Sunday. Concern was expressed that the service was aimed
  94. at the new licensees, but there was no facility at present
  95. to allow them to call in on 80m under the current licence
  96. conditions.
  97.  
  98.    KEN EI7DKB and Eugene EI5HG travelled from Cork for the
  99. meeting, with a view to incorporating Limerick into the national
  100. packet network once again, and made a generous offer of equipment
  101. to LRC to help upgrade their system. A meeting followed in
  102. order to discuss the issue in more detail.
  103.  
  104. LOUGH ERNE ARC RALLY
  105. --------------------
  106.    The Lough Erne club will hold its 13th annual rally on
  107. 10 April, at 12 noon, in the Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen.
  108. Lough Erne ARC is offering the amateur community the best
  109. possible cross section of traders, and is also well geared
  110. towards homebrew equipment with a company well renowned for
  111. their printed circuit boards. The usual raffle will take place,
  112. and there will be a bring and buy stand and talk-in on S22.
  113.

  117. SLIGO NEWS
  118. ----------
  119.    Cobwebs were blown from the equipment and c/s belonging
  120. to Sligo ARC on St. Patrick's Day as activity from Sligo
  121. county was forthcoming from EI2SRC. Many called and were delighted
  122. to hook up with EI2SRC again, and special thanks to Martin
  123. EI3FI and Dave EI8BEB for the operation.
  124.  
  125.    Martin mentioned that he placed the IRTS News on the packet
  126. radio system, and it was read there on the Sunday for which
  127. it was destined by Joe in Perth, Australia. Seemingly the
  128. news had been distributed by Tom EI6EH via satellite, and
  129. was available  two days later in Australia. Martin received
  130. thanks by the same route from Joe, who mentioned that he was
  131. ex-Irish and was delighted to receive the bulletin all the
  132. way from EI.
  133.  
  134. RTS DINNER AND AGM
  135. -------------------
  136.    The IRTS AGM and annual dinner will be held in Jackson's
  137. Hotel, Ballybofey, on 23/24 April. The special rate for B
  138. and B in the hotel will be 22 pounds per person sharing. This
  139. includes a full breakfast and access to the hotel's leisure
  140. facilities, such as a 22 metre pool, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi
  141. and gymnasium.
  142.  
  143.    The dinner dance tickets are 13 pounds each, now available
  144. from Ken McDermott EI4DW. Postal orders, cheques or cash will
  145. be welcomed by Ken or by Willie EI6AI.
  146.  
  147.    The organisers stress the urgency of early booking for
  148. accommodation and dinner dance tickets, due to the huge interest
  149. already shown, and tickets will soon be scarce or even impossible
  150. to obtain.

  155. TWO METRES COUNTIES CONTEST
  156. ---------------------------
  157.    The 2m Counties Contest will be held from 14.00 UTC to
  158. 16.00 on Easter Monday.
  159.    
  160.    This contest provides an excellent opportunity to acquire
  161. those elusive counties from one of the many portable stations
  162. located on hilltops in every province.
  163.  
  164.    Try going portable for the afternoon, and you will not
  165. be disappointed with the activity. If nothing else, give a
  166. call or two on FM or SSB to those who are participating, to
  167. give them valuable points. If you have only a handheld there
  168. is a section for FM operation only.
