IRTS News for 27h March 1994
EXCAVATIONS UNCOVER MAJOR CONTROVERSY
-------------------------------------
A recent report by Tom EI3HH from his friends in China
reveals that Professor Kwang Seng (pronounced Hang Seng),
the well known Chinese archaeologist and historian, is to
present a paper at the University of Beijing on his recent
discoveries at a ruined monastery at Lharso Apso (pronounced
Larsar Apso) on the border of Tibet.
Excavations have revealed a large number of artifacts,
amongst which are a number of copper sheets bearing a system
of lines and symbols. There are also a few sheets covered
with ancient chinese writings which he has managed to decipher.
They reveal the story of a religious sect who, by means of
a device which they held in their hands, were able to communicate
over long distances.
Carbon dating of the artifacts has place them in the year
2,000 BC. Efforts to translate the lines and symbols are under
way, and further details are awaited.
The script goes on to tell how the local war lord, one
Choo Phu Pong, having suffered a disastrous defeat in battle,
thought that the sect were to blame, were dark spirits and
that their devices were inventions of the devil. He ordered
that the monastery be razed to the ground, all members of
the sect, including the monks, be executed and the devices
be completely destroyed.
Professor Kwang Seng, who has been busy collating and
indexing the finds, will share his disocveries with the symposium
at Beijing University next Friday, and will pose the question:
is the science of radio communication older than we think,
and does it date back to 2,000 b.c.?
LOUGH ERNE RALLY
----------------
The Lough Erne club will hold its 13th annual rally on
10 April, at 12 noon, in the Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen.
Lough Erne ARC is offering the amateur community the best
possible cross section of traders, and is also well geared
towards homebrew equipment with a company well renowned for
their printed circuit boards. The usual raffle will take place,
and there will be a bring and buy stand and talk-in on S22.

phone 0365 87761, or Alec GI1RBI at GB7TED BBS.
SOUTH DUBLIN RADIO CLUB
-----------------------
Members of SDR travelled to Kinnity in Offaly for the weekend
of 19/20 March. Althought the planned moonbounce operation
did not take place, they operated on HF and 2m for the two
days. The HF operation was highly successful, in particular
on Sunday when band conditions appeared to be very good. The
VHF operation included a packet station, and FM and SSB operation.
Although SDR have activated Co. Offaly on a number of occasions
in the past, they have found that it is still in demand, especially
by EI and GI stations.
SOUTH EASTERN ARG
-----------------
On St. Patrick's Day the station EI2SPD was operational
from early nmorning until late afternoon, with over 130 contacts
on 80m, 40m and 15m, the station being a TS 140 and full size

EI2SPD will be operational next year, and, it is envisaged,
for a longer period.

will be active during the Waterford Opera Festival.
On 30 March a general meeting will be held in Egan's Lounge
Bar, Barronstrand St. Liam EI7FE will be there to collect
forms for AREN.
IRTS DINNER AND AGM
-------------------
The IRTS AGM and annual dinner will be held in Jackson's
Hotel, Ballybofey, on 23/24 April. The special rate for B
and B in the hotel will be 22 pounds per person sharing. This
includes a full breakfast and access to the hotel's leisure
facilities, such as a 22 metre pool, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi
and gymnasium.
The dinner dance tickets are 13 pounds each, now available
from Ken McDermott EI4DW. Postal orders, cheques or cash will
be welcomed by Ken or by Willie EI6AI.
The organisers stress the urgency of early booking for
