  3.   LICENSE NUMBER FORMAT:
  4.   The State of  South Carolina currently issues a  nine (9) character
  5.   numeric  license number  without delimiters  or punctuation  in the
  6.   format  (nnnnnnnnn)  subsequent  to  July  1989. Previously drivers
  7.   license numbers were seven (7)  digits. The license number bears no
  8.   correlation to the driver's personal identifiers.

  11.   DOCUMENT:
  12.   The  photographic  license  uses  a  stiff  clear  laminate  and is
  13.   manufactured  by  NBS,  Imaging   Systems  Division.  The  driver's
  14.   photograph is displayed in the  lower right corner of the document.
  15.   The  large  blue  and  the  director's  signature state seal should
  16.   appear overlapping the photo;  executive director's signature is at
  17.   the bottom. Position of the data fields may vary.

  20.   TERM:
  21.   License  is valid  for four   (4) years,  expiring on  the driver's
  22.   birthday.

  25.   MINORS:
  26.   Minor  license is  indicated by  "UNDER 21"  in red phantom letters
  27.   stamped across the data area.

  30.   CDL:
  31.   Commercial drivers  license is indicated by  "***CDL***" before the
  32.   name line and and below the signature.
