NEW MEXICO
LICENSE NUMBER FORMAT:
The State of New Mexico currently issues a nine (9) character
sequentially generated numeric license number with no delimiters or
punctuation: (nnnnnnnnn) Documents issued prior to July 1993 used
an eight (8) character sequentially generated numeric license
number with no delimiters or punctuation: (nnnnnnnn) Neither
format license number bears any correlation to the driver's
personal identifiers.
DOCUMENT:
The plastic laminated, photographic license manufactured by
Polaroid displays "NEW MEXICO" in a large repetitive pattern over
the photograph and in a smaller vertical pattern over the textual
portion of the document within the laminate.
TERM:
Licenses are valid for four (4) years, expiring thirty (30) days
after the driver's birthday.
MINORS:
Licenses issued currently show "UNDER 21" below the license type
field. Previous licenses showed "UNDER 21 YRS. OLD" stamped on the
obverse side.
CDL:
Commercial licenses are indicated by "CDL", "COMMERCIAL LICENSE",
or "COMMERCIAL DRIVER LICENSE" in the heading.
