  3.   LICENSE NUMBER FORMAT:
  4.   The State of North Carolina issues a sequentially generated numeric
  5.   license   number  up  to  seven  (7)  digits  long  that  bears  no
  6.   correlation to the driver's personal identifiers.

  9.   DOCUMENT:
  10.   The    plastic  laminated,  photographic  license  manufactured  by
  11.   Polaroid, displays the driver's photograph in the upper left corner
  12.   of the document.  A pattern of "NORTH CAROLINA" is repeated in gold
  13.   within the  laminate.  The photograph  should be  overlapped by the
  14.   state seal  on the  right and  the commissioner's  signature at the
  15.   bottom.

  18.   TERM:
  19.   Licenses are  valid for  four (4)  years, expiring  on the driver's
  20.   birthday.

  23.   MINORS:
  24.   Licenses issued to drivers under 21  use a blue (as opposed to red)
  25.   photograph background.

  28.   CDL:
  29.   Commercial  licenses are  indicated by  "COMMERCIAL CDL"  below the
