IDAHO
LICENSE NUMBER FORMAT:
The State of Idaho currently issues a nine (9) digit, sequentially
generated alpha numeric license number that has no correlation to
the driver's personal identifiers in the format: AA-nnnnnn-n).
Idaho has used different license number formats in recent years,
including:
Prior to January 1, 1993, the Social Security Number was used. Or,
at the driver's request, a sequentially generated number beginning
with 910 or 920 followed by six (6) numeric characters.
From January 1, 1993 to May 1, 1993, Idaho issued a sequentially
generated number beginning with 910, 920, 930, or 940.
DOCUMENT:
The plastic laminated, photographic license manufactured by
Polaroid, displays the driver's photograph in the lower left
corner. The camera number should be printed in black, overlapping
the right edge of the photograph. Current issue licenses display
the Idaho State seal in gold repetitively within the laminate.
Prior issue documents displayed "IDAHO" printed in gold within the
laminate. An additional "registration number" must appear
immediately beneath the driver license number.
TERM:
License issued subsequent to September, 1990 is valid for four (4)
years, expiring on the driver's birthday. Prior issue license is
valid for three (3) years.
MINORS:
Licenses currently issued to minors show "UNDER 21 UNTIL..."
printed immediately below the date of birth. Previously issued
licenses (through September, 1990) showed "UNDER 21 UNTIL..."
printed in red across the textual portion of the document.
CDL:
Commercial licenses show a commercial driver notation immediately
above the signature line.
