  3.   LICENSE NUMBER FORMAT:
  4.   The State  of Iowa uses the  Social Security Number as  the license
  5.   number. Or, at the licensee's request, will assign a license number
  6.   (in  the  format  nnn-AA-nnnn)  that  bears  no  correlation to the
  7.   driver's personal identifiers.

  10.   DOCUMENT:
  11.   The  plastic   laminated,  photographic  license   manufactured  by
  12.   Polaroid,  displays  the  driver's  photograph  in  the  upper left
  13.   corner. The director's signature  and station number should overlap
  14.   the right edge of the photograph. The license may appear with "IOWA
  15.   DEPARTMENT  OF TRANSPORTATION"  printed along  with the  state seal
  16.   within the laminate,  or with the DOT logo over  the birth date and
  17.   expiration date.

  20.   TERM:
  21.   License is  valid for two  (2) or four  (4) years, expiring  on the
  22.   driver's  birthday. There  is a   sixty (60)  day grace  period for
  23.   renewal, and two six (6) month extensions are available.

  26.   MINORS:
  27.   Licenses issued to minors show  "MINOR" printed vertically down the
  28.   right side.  Licenses issued to  minors between July  1987 and July
  29.   1990 show the driver's photograph in profile.

  33.   Commercial licenses  show "CDL" printed  vertically down the  right
  34.   side.
