02/24/1993 NORFOLK, Va. (UPI) -- A Norfolk gun dealer is being
held in jail for threatening to kill President Clinton.
The Secret Service arrested 28-year-old Mike Shields Monday at
the Federal Building in Norfolk. Authorities said he was being
interviewed by federal firearms agents when he told them he wanted
to kill the president.
Agents declined to say why Shields was talking to agents from the
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, although conversations
between gun dealers and ATF agents are common.
Shields owns a shooting range and a gun store, and also is
president of Firearms International Inc. That company recently
started importing cheap shotguns made in China.
Shields, who is being held without bond in the Portsmouth jail,
will be in court Thursday to answer the charges against him.
