  7.     Carl Sandburg was a great man. His life was one of fame, 
  8.  
  9. once  he began writing. He inspired many people. He also became 
  10.  
  11. an American Marvel. His works still remain read even today, 30 
  12.  
  13. years after his death. 
  14.  
  15.     His life was an interesting one. His parents immigrated to the 
  16.  
  17. US from Sweden. His parents moved to Galesburg, Illinois. He 
  18.  
  19. attended public schools. At the age of thirteen, he had to give up 
  20.  
  21. public school and go to work to help earn money for his family. 
  22.  
  23. First, he drove a milk truck. Next he worked in a barber shop Then 
  24.  
  25. he went on to change sets in theater, operated a brick kiln, and 
  26.  
  27. worked as a carpenter, house painter and dishwasher. When he 
  28.  
  29. was older, he joined the fight against the Spanish in the 
  30.  
  31. Spanish-American War. He spent a long eight months in Puerto 
  32.  
  33. Rico. After the war, he went to Lombard College. Afterwards , he 
  34.  
  35. went on to work as an organizer for the Social-Democratic Party in 
  36.  
  37. Wisconsin, during 1907 through 1908. That was also the year he 
  38.  
  39. got married. He also wrote for the Leader, a newspaper in 
  40.  
  41. Milwaukee. He then went on to the city of Chicago. There, he 
  42.  
  43. wrote for the two newspapers, the Daily News and the Daybook. 
  44.  
  45. He liked writing for newspapers some, but his true passion was 
  46.  
  47. poetry. Some of his early poems were published in the Chicago 
  48.  
  49. newspapers he worked for. 
  50.  
  51.         With his love for poetry grew, the demand for his 
  52.  
  53. poetry also grew. In the year 1916, at the age of thirty eight, he 
  54.  
  55. published the book, Chicago poems. Two years later, at the age of 
  56.  
  57. forty, he published Cornhuskers. The public loved these two 
  58.  
  59. marvelous books. Other poets accepted them as wonderful. In the 
  60.  
  61. 1920Æs he became so popular, that he quit journalism to write 
  62.  
  63. full-time as a career. He also moved away from the black ink to 
  64.  
  65. write songs. Some were accepted into songbooks, such as The 
  66.  
  67. Songbag, and The New American Songbag.  
  68.  
  69.     Sandburg was then transformed into an American Marvel.
  70.  
  71. he was very interested in the Ideas of Democracy and Liberty.
  72.  
  73. He was inspired by great men, such as Abraham Lincoln, who was 
  74.  
  75. shot eighteen years before SandburgÆs birth. He was so inspired 
  76.  
  77. that he wrote a book about the manÆs life. It was called Abraham 
  78.  
  79. Lincoln: The war years volumes 1, 2, 3, and 4. These were 
  80.  
  81. published in the year 1939, at the late age of 61. The series was so 
  82.  
  83. strong and powerful, it won a Pulitzer prize. Some of his 
  84.  
  85. all-American works include the following: The Chicago race 
  86.  
  87. chariots(1919), Mary Lincoln , Wife and Widow(1932), 
  88.  
  89. Rootabaga Country(1922), and Potato Face(1930). 
  90.  
  91.     In summary, Sandburg was and all-American great guy.

  93. He led a life of many social statuses and worked his way to the 
  94.  
  95. top. He wrote many great works. And finally he proved himself to 
  96.  
  97. be an American marvel. Carl Sandburg was a great man.
