OS/2 Reviews by Jon Estes
Hello - Just an update on version 2.1 and the latest &
greatest SW for OS/2.
So far, 2.1 is running like a champ. The reported bugs
so far are mostly cosmetic problems, and there is a fix
available for them already (21wpsf.zip). I did install
MMPM/2 this time, but I am considering getting rid of the
video support. Having 'only' 8Mb, I am not running HPFS, but
I did install every other bell and whistle there is.
Some of best SW available follows:
Directory Manager - DirMan 2.1f
Multiple windows, many functions, user definable
mousable macros, quicker and easier to use than the drives
object.
Archive Viewer - AV 1.71 (AV171.ZIP)
Now has a more graphical interface with 2 directory
windows. Much easier to use than before. Has file handling
capabilities nearly as good as DirMan - Can also be used as a
low memory replacement to the WPS. Even has its own internal
associations, independent of those in the WPS. Caveat: Can
use ONLY OS/2 archive programs (Use Info-Zip's Zip 1.9 &
Unzip 5.0 for PKZ 2.04 compatability).
Mail Reader - KWQ 1.2a
This reader has finally come into it's own. It is
still a non-databased reader, but it now rivals or surpasses
SLMR in capability. Has an excellent internal editor and
options for everything. KWQ can use DOS or Windows or OS/2
archiving programs and/or editors. Registration is $35.
Others:
PMView85 - GIF Viewer for PM.
LiveWire - Comm program - internal ZModem - Text Mode
ICON_170 - Icon Assignment program - Drag and drop
If you are using any OS/2 SW applications you think are
nifty, please drop me a note and let the rest of us know. I
use a lot of DOS/Win apps, but am always looking for native
OS/2 equivalents.
