Program Name: TXTREAD1
BBS File Name: TXTREAD1.ZIP
Program Type: TSR Text File Viewer
Author: Steve LaRue
SW Reg: $15
Comment: Handy!
Have you ever wanted to read a text file while you are
in a program? Maybe you are trying out a new shareware
program and you need to look at the docs again. You would
have to exit the program, load a file viewer, view the file,
then start up the program again. If the program you were
running has a "Drop To DOS" option, then that might save you
a couple of steps. But, wouldn't it be nice if all you
needed to do was hit a HOT KEY combination and up pops a cute
little text file viewer without having to exit your program?
TXTREAD1 by Steve LaRue does just that! What will they think
of next?
TXTREAD1, as I mentioned above is a TSR (4k) that must
be loaded either in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, or in a batch
file that calls your program. Once loaded, a screen will be
displayed saying that it's loaded. Then all you need to do
is hit ALT-ESC to pop up the file viewer. You'll be asked if
you want to jump to another drive, or keep to the current
drive. You can change to any drive, even a networked drive.
It'll even do a CD-ROM. After you have chosen the drive you
want, a window will appear with the contents of the current
directory. You can use your arrow keys, etc, to choose a
file or to change directories. Highlight the file you wan to
read and hit ENTER. It works great! Once you're done, hit
ESC and you will be asked if you want to view another file.
Hit "N", and you are back where you started from.
The file viewer is not your "full-featured" viewer. It
doesn't have all the little extras such as printing and
searching, but it can be very handy. Also, I found it had
trouble with games and such with a lot of graphics. However,
try it, you might find it one of those programs you can't
live without!
NOTE: The unregistered version can view files up to about
20k, and the registered version will do about 100k.
