  13.        1/2      cup   Lard                                              
  14.        1/2      cup   Sugar - granulated                                
  15.        1 1/2    cup   Corn meal - yellow                                
  16.        1 1/2    cup   Flour                                             
  17.        2        ea    Eggs                                              
  18.        1        tsp   Salt                                              
  19.        1        tsp   Baking powder                                     
  20.        1        tsp   Baking soda                                       
  21.        1        cup   Sour or butter milk

  23.     DIRECTIONS  ------------------------------------------------------------

  25.     Cream sugar and shortening, add eggs and beat smooth. Add dry         
  26.     ingredients sifted together alternately with sour milk. Bake in layer 
  27.     cake tins in oven about the same temperature as for layer cake and    
  28.     same length of time.

  30.     Note: Time and temperature guesstimate, moderate oven 350 F. for      
  31.     about 20 minutes or until done. Watch closely.
