  4. The head Guardian Angel admits some of his heroics were lies

  7.     First Superman dies and now this. Curtis Sliwa, founder and
  8. leader of the crime-fighting, beret-wearing volunteer group
  9. known as the Guardian Angels, says six of the group's early
  10. exploits were just publicity stunts. The hoaxes, which Sliwa
  11. says ended in 1980, ranged from a kidnapping Sliwa blamed on
  12. cops to a story about a wallet returned to an elderly mugging
  13. victim. The Angels have long been controversial, and some press
  14. reports allege Sliwa has yet to own up to all such misdeeds.
  15. Still, Sliwa says his honor is intact: "My reputation in New
  16. York was almost mythically heroic, and this is just a hard
  17. reality check." Hard indeed. He says his Angel wife Lisa
  18. launched a spinning, kung-fu kick at his face when he told her
  19. about his fabrications.
