OCR: CHLAMYDIA HLAMYDIA IS THE most common ( ) sexually transmitted disease. It is caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis and it can infect the vagina, mouth, urinary tract, or rectum. In women it is mostly confined to the cervix, resulting in a greenish-yellow discharge. Chlamydia is easily treated with antibiotics. However, because many women show no symptoms, it often goes untreated and can then lead to salpingitis (inflammation of the fallopian tubes). Diagnosis of chlamydia in women often only occurs because their sexual partner has been diagnosed as having the infection.
