It is covered by a hood - the counterpart of the male foreskin. The clitoris consists of sensitive tissue that becomes erect during stimulation, due to increased blood flow through the local arteries and decreased drainage of blood from the veins. Clitoral stimulation is important in helping a woman to reach orgasm.
