  1. Pressworks 2 for Windows .INI file
  2. ==================================

  4. Pressworks 2 maintains its settings from session to session in a
  5. Windows .INI file called PRESSWK2.INI. This file is located in
  6. your WINDOWS directory, or if you are running Pressworks 2 from a
  7. network, it may be located in your HOME directory. 
  8.  
  9. The PRESSWK2.INI file has many settings that you MUST NOT edit.
  10. However, there are three settings detailed below that you may
  11. find useful to change. All three settings are located in the
  12. [general defaults] section of the file.

  15. standard_open_file=yes/no    (default setting is "no")
  16. =========================================================

  18. The Open command in the File menu of Pressworks 2 displays the
  19. Open an Existing File tab of the Startup Options dialog. This tab
  20. displays the last 20 Pressworks documents on which you have
  21. worked. If the document you want to open is not listed, you can
  22. display the standard Open Document dialog by clicking on the
  23. Browse button.

  25. The Open command in previous versions of Pressworks took you
  26. straight to the standard Open Document dialog. If you want the
  27. Pressworks 2 Open command to bypass the Startup Options dialog
  28. and go straight to the Open Document dialog, change the
  29. standard_open_file setting to "yes".

  32. booklet_clipping=no/yes         (default setting is "yes")

  35. When you print a booklet, any frames overlapping the page
  36. boundaries are clipped. You can stop this from happening by
  37. changing the booklet_clipping setting to "no".
  38.  
  39. This is useful if you want to have a frame running across the
  40. centre spread of your booklet, eg. containing an eye-catching
  41. PowerText headline. (The on screen display will still be
  42. clipped, but when you print your booklet the frame will run
  43. across the centre pages.)

  45. NOTE: Because of the page ordering, it is only useful to change
  46. this setting to "no" for the centre spread (the centre has two
  47. consecutive pages on the same sheet of paper).

  50. newspaper_breaks=no/yes        (default setting is "yes")

  53. When you flow text around complex shapes, eg. a detailed piece of
  54. clipart, the text frame can become so narrow that words cannot be
  55. hyphenated correctly, leaving large vertical spaces in the frame.
  56. This is because Pressworks 2 will only split a word at the
  57. correct hyphenation point.
  58.  
  59. In newspapers it is common to split words at non-hyphen points to
  60. make the document more visually appealing. If you want
  61. Pressworks 2 to split words at non-hyphen points when used in a
  62. narrow frame, change the newspaper_breaks setting to "no". 
  63.  
  64. NOTE: Splitting words at non-hyphen points makes the text harder
  65. to read.
  66.  
  67. `Newspaper breaks' can also be enabled on a paragraph style or
  68. paragraph basis for non-justified text by setting the Hyphenation
  69. Hot Zone (on the Spacing dialog) to zero.

  72. remap_zero_width_chars=no/yes      (default setting is "yes")
  73. ==========================================================

  75. Many older 'caps only' fonts have zero width characters in place 
  76. of their lower case characters.  By default, Pressworks 2 
  77. attempts to remap these zero width characters to upper case.
  78.  
  79. However, some special fonts (eg. Sanskritpc) contain characters 
  80. of zero width which display on top of the previous character.  To  
  81. make Pressworks 2 display or print these special fonts correctly,
  82. change the remap_zero_width_chars setting to "no".

  85. Editing the PRESSWK2.INI file
  86. ==============================

  88. If you DO edit the PRESSWK2.INI file, follow the steps below to
  89. edit the file safely:
  90.  
  91. 1.     Using DOS or Windows File Manager, make a copy of
  92.     PRESSWK2.INI before you amend it. This ensures that if you
  93.     make a mistake when editing the file, you can use the
  94.     original file again.
  95.  
  96. 2.     Open PRESSWK2.INI in a Windows text editor such as Notepad.
  97.  
  98. 3.     Scroll to the entries that you need to edit and make the
  99.     edits you require.
  100.  
  101. 4.     Save PRESSWK2.INI
  102.  
  103. Now run Pressworks again. If Pressworks was already running,
  104. close and restart it. The new information that you have added to
  105. PRESSWK2.INI will be used. If you experience any difficulties
  106. when using the amended PRESSWK2.INI file, use the original
  107. PRESSWK2.INI file again and contact Softline for advise.

  109. NOTE: If all else fails, delete the PRESSWK2.INI file. When you
  110. next run Pressworks a new .INI file will be created with the
  111. default settings.
