V12 Installation Checklist
--------------------------
If a Customer is having problems with a V12 Installation (or Upgrade)
check the following things:
1. Do they have a current backup?
The first thing to do is ensure they have a current backup of
their data! If they don't have a backup and don't have a
current working version of the program, at least have them
copy the *.DB*. *.NTX, and *.MEM files to another directory.
This is the very minimum steps they should take to ensure they
can recover their data if they need to.
2. Will the Install program run from either size diskettes?
If they can't run the Install program from one size diskette,
try it from the other size diskette. The files on the 3.5
diskettes can be broken up to onto 5.25 diskettes. See Help
File #549 to find out what files should go on what diskettes.
3. Are they running any TSR's?
If they are running TSR's the Lharc program may not be able to
unpack some of the larger files. A good way to check this is
to try and manually run the Lharc program. You can not
manually install V12, but this will tell us if the error is
occurring during the execution of the Lharc program. To test
the operation of the Lharc program:
a. Make a Temp directory on their hard disk.
b. Copy all of the files off the TeleMagic diskettes into
the Temp directory.
c. Inside the Temp DIr. type `LHARC x *.LZH' and touch
<ENTER>.
4. Are all files in the TM Dir flagged SRW not SRO?
In order for the Installation program to update the old files,
everything needs to flagged as shareable read write. Using the ì
fol lowing command in Novell: Flag *.* SRW.
On single users systems it is possible for the files to have
been flagged as `Read Only' with the ATTRIB command:
ATTRIB -r *.*
5. If it is a network enviroment, does user have full Supervisor
rights?
For the Installation program to run correctly, the users will
need to be logged into the network as the Supervisor.
7. Make sure they are upgrading a version of TeleMagic that works
(i.e all the files are present?)!
It may be necessary for them restore their old version from a
backup and insure it works before doing the upgrade again.
If after going through this checklist they are still having problems,
print the formletter `InstallQ' (in the F:\TM\ database). Make sure you
are at their record when doing this so the formletter will merge in the
correct PID,CON, and phone numbers. Give the completed InstallQ form to
MLM or DRM.
