I fucked around with Doom2 today, so did a friend. Neither of us were
impressed and preferred Doom1.
Mine's a 386/40, his is a 486/66.
Why you ask?
It's SLOW.
When the patch is out, I don't think you should upgrade your version 1.2 of
Doom1 to 1.666 because it would slow things down. Gauging by a rough
estimate, it's 1/3rd slower than Doom1. It is noticable.
And the worst thing is, I can't imagine why. New weapon. So. It shouldn't
matter. New monsters. So what. That's just a sprite like any other.
New levels? nah, that's not why either.
The only thing I could think of, would be the sound code somehow really
slowing everything down.
Damn, what a bummer. I think I also remember seeing a post a long time ago
from a guy who had the 1.6 beta, and did some sort of developer switch to
show the dots, and the same scene, running under the beta was slower than
running under the regular 1.2 exe.
Anyone know why?
