SGI Doom is a straight port of PC Doom. Same resolution, same game.
No music, though, and no mouse support.
It does run faster on a fast workstation than on a slow PC, and
network support is a bit less complicated. If you have a PC that is
slow and/or has no sound card, you might want to check it out.
The reason that SGI X-Doom was released before any other port is that
Dave Taylor (I think) at iD software did it more or less for fun on a
machine they had on loan. I would also guess that an SGI is fast enough
to accept a non-optimized, "quick and dirty" port. The PowerPC port is
coming up, but they only just got the machines to do it, and they have
been sort of busy getting the original PC version to work...
