I suggest you use BNU available on infant in the multi_doom/modem dir:
it replaces sersetup, and the command line I use follows (spacing important!)
sersetup -com4 -irq 7 -deathmatch -skill 2 -nomonsters -record filename
-maxdemo 1500
This assumes COM 4 at IRQ 7 for my modem, you would use
-com2 -irq 2 (or 9, whichever works)
Like I said, pay attention to spacing.
Happy fraggin
