  1.                           OPTIONS

  4. This window allows you to set up some basic parameters for !Pennies,
  5. the starting values are shown in brackets next to the options.
  6. These options are applicable to whichever data set they were created
  7. with - so each set of data can have its own backup location etc. Most
  8. changes will take effect immediately but the default maximum filesize
  9. and default data directory will only be actioned on the next start up.

  11. NORMAL MAXIMUM FILESIZE
  12.  
  13. This entry governs the amount of memory that !Pennies grabs as a
  14. default, if you only use small files of less than 100 entries then set
  15. this to 100, if you have a larger file it will be processed properly
  16. but !Pennies will have to grab more memory before doing so - this will
  17. take a very small time to do and you will not normally notice the
  18. delay. If you regularly use large files then it can help processing
  19. speeds in long procedures such as PROJECT to set this figure to a
  20. number more than 20 above the size of the largest normal file. This
  21. option only takes effect when !Pennies is next started. Typically 100
  22. entries uses 545K, 300 uses 605K and 600 uses 705K - the exact figures
  23. depend on the configuration of your machine.This option only takes
  24. effect when !Pennies is next started.

  26. PRINTOUT FONT HEIGHT and WIDTH
  27.  
  28. These set the font height and width used in the print routines.
  29. 'Corpus' font is used and a size of 10 gives a good compromise between
  30. readability and paper use for large files. This option takes effect
  31. immediately.

  33. DEFAULT CURRENCY
  34.  
  35. This sets the currency which is used by default in starting new
  36. accounts - the currency can be changed when an account is started.
  37. This option takes effect immediately.

  39. DEFAULT BACKUP DIRECTORY
  40.  
  41. This is where the backup copy of your data will be saved if you select
  42. 'Quit©' to exit !Pennies. Initially this is set to
  43. "<Penny$Dir>.spareaccts" which is a directory called "spareaccts"
  44. within the main !Pennies directory on your disc. If you wish to locate
  45. it elsewhere just drag the adjacent icon to an open filer window and a
  46. new "spareaccts" directory will be created there and !Pennies will
  47. remember where this is when you click on SET. If you wish to call this
  48. directory something else just delete the text and write in another
  49. name then drag the icon to your new location - again a directory will
  50. be created and !Pennies will store this name and location when SET is
  51. clicked. This option takes effect immediately.

  54. DEFAULT DATA DIRECTORY
  55.  
  56. This is the directory in which the default !Pennies 'data' directory
  57. is located. Initially it is set to "<Penny$Dir>.!Pennydata.data"
  58. indicating that the 'data' directory is stored in the !Pennydata
  59. directory within the main !Pennies directory on your disc. !Pennydata
  60. type directories can be located anywhere and when double clicked on
  61. they will run !Pennies with their data installed. More than one set of
  62. data may be created by copying a fresh !Pennydata directory and these
  63. can be re-named as you wish.

  65. If !Pennies is run by double clicking over it's own icon it will look
  66. for a default set of data to run with. This option tells !Pennies
  67. where to look for that default data and is initially set to look
  68. inside it's own directory for !Pennydata - this is so that it can be
  69. copied by you without losing touch with it's own basic data. Using
  70. this option will not create a new 'data' directory it just tells
  71. !Pennies where to look for one when it next starts up so you must have
  72. copied a 'data' directory to the new location before re-setting this
  73. option. To do this open the 'New' directory on the second !Pennies
  74. disc and follow the instructions given in the ReadThis file. Having
  75. created this directory just drag the icon onto the 'data' directory
  76. icon inside the open filer window (of your copied !Pennydata
  77. directory). The text will change to indicate the path to this new
  78. directory. Clicking SET will establish this as the data directory to
  79. be used when !Pennies is run by double clicking on it's own icon.

  81. This option only takes effect when !Pennies is next started.

  85. Clicking over this sets the options as shown at the time in the
  86. OPTIONS window, they are saved to disc and used next time !Pennies is
  87. started.

  89. EXIT

  91. Clicking over this button or closing the window will eit the options
  92. routine. However, if you have altered any parameters and not clicked
  93. over SET you will be offered one chance to do so.

  95. COPYING DISCS
  96.  
  97. If you make a copy of your !Pennies application to another location on
  98. your hard disc or onto a floppy having already changed the 'backup' or
  99. 'data' options then !Pennies may not be able to find it's start up
  100. data. If this happens open the new !Pennies directory by holding
  101. down Shift whilst double clicking on the !Pennies icon. Then
  102. double click on the !Boot file, this will register the new
  103. !Pennies location. Then run !Pennies by double clicking on a
  104. !Pennydata type directory and !Pennies will run with this data - you
  105. can then reset any options you wish.
