- FACILITIES AVAILABLE WITHIN !PENNIES

- All facilities within !Pennies have their own help texts available
- through their own windows, the descriptions here merely give an
- outline of what the facilities are and how to get to them.

- MENUS
-
- Many facilities are accessed through menus. Menus are described here
- by the window or field within a window, which they appear over when
- the menu button is clicked, thus 'account display menu' means the menu
- displayed when the menu button is clicked over the account display.
-
- TRANSACTIONS
-
- All data is entered in one TRANSACTION window which alters itself as
- data is entered. All essential data except the amount is entered from
- menus which are created automatically as new accounts are added.
-
- -Between accounts-from the TRANSACTION window (opened from the
- TOOLBAR)
-
- -Internally on an account-from the TRANSACTION window using the
- INTERNAL or LOCAL (pay accounts) transaction type.
-
- -Adding/deleting transaction types-by using 'Amend' from the
- transaction menu in the TRANSACTION window (enter a 'from' account
- of the right type first)
-
- -Displayed-by using SEE ACCOUNT from the TOOLBAR.
-
- -Saved-automatically when ENTERed from the TRANSACTION window.
-
- -Sorted-into date order automatically before display.
-
- -Evaluated-before display using account specific FUNCTIONS
-
- -Edited/deleted-by selecting the entry from within the ACCOUNT
- display.

- -Calculations-can be made in the amount entry field in the
- TRANSACTION window.

- -Common transactions can be entered with one keystroke using KeySet
- from the TRANSACTION window.

- FOREIGN CURRENCY TRANSACTIONS
-
- -Automatic if accounts are in different currencies or transaction
- with foreign currency is edited-FOREX window opens

- -Selecting another currency from the currency menu over the
- currency icon in the TRANSACTION window-the FOREX window opens.
-
- -New currency-by selecting 'New' from the currency menu-the NEW
- CURRENCY window will open.
-
- -Exchange rates-the latest value is stored, otherwise set or amended
- in FOREX window.
-
- -Rates calculation-by entering known result in FOREX and clicking
- RATES icon during transaction.

- STANDING ORDERS (s/o)
-
- -Displayed in the Standing Orders window when 's/o' is selected from
- the TOOLBAR.
-
- -Created using the form opened by selecting 'Create' from
- the Standing Orders window.
-
- -Edited/deleted by selecting the entry within the Standing Orders
- window and choosing Edit or Delete from the menu shown.
-
- -Actioned, updated and re-saved automatically on start up.
-
- INDEX ENTRIES
-
- -Entries are made from the INDEX account display, which is accessed
- from the SEE ACCOUNT entry on the TOOLBAR.
-
- -Editing/deletion of entries is by selecting an entry from the
- INDEX display and selecting Edit or Delete from the menu shown.
-
- -Also accessed from the ACCOUNTS display when INDEXLINK is selected
- from the accounts display menu.

- ACCOUNTS
-
- Accounts hold transaction data, there are 5 set account types. All
- accounts created are added to a menu structure. Addresses, telephone
- numbers and reference data can be included in account definition.
- Account displays vary according to type but all include balance or
- value computations for each transaction in date order.

- -Selected-from a menu structure of types, sub-types and accounts.
-
- -Saved-automatically as individual text files within type and
- sub-type directories within the 'acctdata' directory in the 'data'
- directory within the !Pennydata type directory.
-
- -Displayed-by selecting from the menu given by selecting the SEE
- ACCOUNT entry on the TOOLBAR.
-
- -Reference data-displayed in normal account display by selecting
- 'Fulldata' from the top pane menu.
-
- -Creation-using the NEW ACCOUNT window accessed from the TRANSACTION
- window or the SEE ACCOUNTS menu.
-
- -Deleted-by selecting the DELETE FILE icon on the TOOLBAR (opens
- DELETE window),deleted files are removed from the account menu but
- the files are transferred to an archive directory and Squashed
- (they can then be deleted using normal filer methods or used as
- archive files.)

- -Edited- by selecting 'Edit' from the top pane menu, allows editing
- of all data entered in NEW ACCOUNT window except name.
-
- -Analysed- by use of GRAPHS, SUM, PROJECT, TOTALS facilities from
- main TOOLBAR and 'Budget' from within the account display menu.
-
- -Printing-of all or last 50 transactions by selecting 'Printall' or
- 'Print50' from account display menu.
-
- -Print fontsize-selected in OPTIONS window.
-
- -Interest-complex interest calculations including tiered rates by
- selecting 'Interest' from account display menu (see also CALCULATOR)
-
- -Find-find an entry or set of entries, save found entries to 'Find'
- account, by selecting 'Find' from account display menu.
-
- -Archive-by selecting 'Archive' from account display menu. Parts or
- all of an account may be archived. Archived accounts can be
- displayed by dragging them to the SEE ACCOUNT entry on the main
- TOOLBAR.They cannot be edited.
-
- -Indexlinking-by selecting 'Index' from within an account display
- menu, this updates each transaction value by using the selected
- INDEX file. The original account file is not amended but the amended
- account is held as the new INDEXLINK file.
-
- -Budget-by selecting 'Budget' from the account display menu, allows
- creation of a Budget account predicting future transactions on an
- account based on analysis of actual transactions over the last year.
- This file 'Fixed.Budget 'can be displayed, edited and added to
- whilst being displayed.

- -Exported-to other applications using the Export facility to create
- new files in a variety of formats.

- INDEX/INDEXLINK ACCOUNTS
-
- -Indexlink-this account can be displayed from the normal accounts
- menu using Fixed.IndexLink.
-
- -Index-Index type accounts can be displayed by selection from the
- Accounts menu or by selecting 'Index' from an account display menu
- then selecting the 'See' button.
-
- -Creation-Index files are created by selecting 'New' from the SEE
- ACCOUNTS menu or the Indexlink menu.
-

- GRAPHS
-
- All accounts can be displayed in graphical form either as line or bar
- graphs. Up to 8 accounts can be drawn on one graph including ARCHIVE
- accounts. Various rates can be measured on line graphs by use of a
- measuring tool. Accounts may be plotted using relative values (to
- their initial values). Shares and units accounts can be plotted by
- total value or share/unit price.

- -Plotting-by selecting GRAPHS from the TOOLBAR.
-
- -Adding-further accounts are added from the graph display menu or by
- dragging an account to the display.
-
- -Printing-by selecting 'Print' from the graph display menu.
-
- -Saving-saved as sprite or drawfile by selecting 'Savesprite' or
- 'Savedraw' from the graph display menu.
-
- OPTIONS
-
- The basic configuration of the application can be set through the
- OPTIONS window selected from the TOOLBAR.
-
- -Maximum normal entries in file (account size)-by overwriting the
- current setting.
-
- -Printout font size-by overwriting current height and width figures.
-
- -Default currency-by selecting a new one from the currencies menu.
-
- -Backup directory-by dragging to select a new directory or by
- overwriting current text with new directory.
-
- -Default Data directory-by dragging to select a new directory or by
- overwriting current text with new directory.
-
- BALANCES
-
- The current and checked balances or values of ALL accounts or those
- of one sub-type are displayed by choosing from the menu shown by
- selecting BALANCES from the TOOLBAR. These may not all be updated (see
- below)
-
- UPDATING
-
- After a transaction entry the accounts involved are not updated until
- they are DISPLAYED or used in the PROJECT facility, they can be
- updated separately by selecting UPDATE from the BALANCES menu. This
- will update the balances on all accounts.

- PROJECT
-
- Any or all accounts can be analysed over a selected period and the
- results projected over a further selectable period using a variety of
- user entered rates. The manner in which accounts are analysed and
- projected can be varied by choosing different PROJECT functions for
- accounts in the NEW ACCOUNT window (by editing account)

- -Project-the PROJECT window is selected from the TOOLBAR.
-
- -ARCHIVE accounts can be projected by dragging them to the PROJECT
- window.
-
- -See Report-the PROJECT window displays a summary of results, the
- full report can be seen by selecting the See button.
-
- -Printing-the report can be printed by selecting the Print button.
-
- SUM
-
- The SUM facility will add any account or set of accounts to another
- account or set of accounts to produce a running total at regular
- intervals over the selected period, the result is held as the
- 'Fixed.Sum' account.

- -New-select SUM from the TOOLBAR the Sum data entry window will open.
-
- -Existing-selecting 'Fixed.Sum'from the See Account menu will display
- the existing Sum account showing all the accounts added and the
- running totals.
-
- -Zeroed-the initial balance can be toggled between zero and it's
- actual value from within the display window. All balance values are
- then adjusted.
-
- -Graphs-the Sum account can be displayed as a graph in the normal
- manner.
-
- EXPORT DATA
-
- All data files can be exported using the Export facility. This creates
- new files in a variety of formats for use in Text Editors, DTP and
- Spreadsheets.

- CALCULATOR
-
- The Calculator function allows you to compute interest, repayments and
- totals for savings and loans. A full account - Fixed.CalcAcct - can
- be created for analysis purposes. This account can be edited and added
- to whilst being displayed.

- BACKUP DATA
-
- All data can be copied to a backup directory by selecting 'Quit©'
- from the iconbar menu. Selecting 'Quit' merely shuts down the
- application. This directory is located within the main !Pennies
- application directory by default but can be put anywhere by using the
- OPTIONS facility.

- DATA DIRECTORIES
-
- The default 'data' directory is initially located within the main
- !Pennies application directory, but other 'data' directories can be
- simply created and located elsewhere and will automatically run when
- selected. The default data directory used by !Pennies can be changed
- by use of the OPTIONS facility.

- SQUASHED FILES
-
- !Pennies will recognise and load Squashed !Pennies files. It will
- unSquash files in use and will reSquash the majority of files. All
- Archive files will be Squashed automatically. If the whole 'data'
- directory is Squashed to save space then !Pennies will handle this but
- will permanently unSquash some files. Access will take slightly longer
- than for normal files.
