  1.                             RTKBA CONFERENCE RULES

  3.     This is a non-confrontational echo.  If you chose to use this echo,
  4.     then please conduct yourself according to these rules.  If these rules
  5.     do not suit you, then please feel free to take advantage of other echoes
  6.     or nets.  Confrontational activity constitutes grounds for punitive
  7.     action.
  8.  
  9.     Your use of this echo is by implied consent.  I.e.  you are implying
  10.     that you consent to obey the rules by your use of this echo.

  12.     1) Keep to the topic of the area, our Right To Keep and Bear Arms.
  13.        There are several other echoes for the discussion of technical
  14.        issues.  Please use them for their intended purpose.  If you want to
  15.        bring something up that isn't OBVIOUSLY tied to the topic -- then
  16.        make it obvious.

  18.        E.G., if the discussion of the bombing in OKLA. comes up, please
  19.        make sure to tie it into RTKBA and not wander all over the place
  20.        with it.

  22.     2) Play nice.  Let's leave the personalities out of the discussions.
  23.        If confused, see paragraph one above.

  25.     3) If you claim something as a fact, substantiate it with the reference
  26.        material.  This applies especially to statistics -- they need to be
  27.        verifiable, and/or direct quote citations.  Don't assume that the
  28.        other participants will automatically understand the point you are
  29.        making without sufficient explanation.  Opinions are fine, but they
  30.        only go so far and need to be stated as such, not as an inference of
  31.        fact.

  33.        Note that this area is for the free exchange of information and
  34.        ideas.  It is not for attempting to impress the other participants
  35.        with your cleverness with the English language or debate
  36.        obfuscation technique.

  38.     4) Selective quoting for the sake of manipulating the discussion is
  39.        frowned upon.  So, too, is quoting to excess.  Quotes need to be
  40.        relevant and succinct.

  42.     5) Receiving several posts with valid, and substantiated, counterpoints
  43.        citing source material should either be answered in kind or
  44.        gracefully acknowledged.

  46.        Saying that you haven't seen them is a cop out.  Neither the
  47.        moderator nor the other participants will buy that one for long.

  49.     6) This area will not be used for any commercial or personal
  50.        enterprises for any reason, with the single exception of raising
  51.        funds for the protection of our second amendment rights.

  53.     7) Illegal stuff:  Keep it legal.  If you're not sure -- apply some
  54.        common sense -- ASK!!!  Remember, sysops can be held liable for some
  55.        of the suggested stupidity previously posted in this, and other,
  56.        echoes.

  58.        DO NOT post anything on construction of any form of weapons in this
  59.        echo, especially chemical or explosive.  At best, these are
  60.        technical issues.  At worst, such posts may be illegal.  Violation
  61.        of this is cause for immediate ejection from the echo.

  63.        If you are going to post copyrighted material, get permission first.
  64.        Neil Shulman has made it known that he does NOT want his writings
  65.        posted.  Therefore, anyone who posts any Shulman writings will get
  66.        ejected.  And, the poster will be held liable for their own actions.

  68.     8) No religious or ethnic slurs, or use of derogatory sound bites will
  69.        be tolerated.  Middle Eastern politics are OFF TOPIC and discussion
  70.        of same will be dealt with accordingly.

  72.     9) Any discussion about the overthrow of the government will be frowned
  73.        upon.  The moderator of this echo understands that some reference
  74.        may be made on this subject when discussing Jeffersonian ideology.
  75.        Just do your best here...

  77.     Any complaints/suggestions about the rules, the moderation, etc. should
  78.     be sent to the moderator, Jim Westbrook (1:382/29.0), via netmail.
  79.     Discussion of the echo rules in the echo is off-topic.  Dredging up old
  80.     problems will get you a vacation or a feed cut free of charge!
