Version 4.2
Moderator: MS1(Ret) Debra Milner @ 1:112/285
Moderator-in-absentia: ICCS(SW) Tony Conte @ ?
1. This echo is a support echo for the United States Navy and open to
anyone who is interested in keeping in contact with shipmates
around the world, or even just those around the block. All you must
do is abide by the rules of the echo as presented below.
2. Please don't be easily annoyed. Think before you post a response
to a message. Without the facial expressions or tone of voice,
what you say may be lost in the meaning of the words you post. If
something said here seriously annoys you, type up a reply, and wait
a day or two before posting it in this echo. We suggest that you
re-read your reply message a few times, and editing it a few times
first before posting it to allow the true meaning of your words to
be clear, concise, and to the point. Try and keep your personal
feelings from clouding your better judgement.
3. Don't be excessively annoying. Our definition of annoying means:
a. Flames of any sort. There is no purpose to flame in this
support echo. Send all personal Flames via Netmail Only !!
b. Excessive quotes. Do not quote an entire message when only
one or two lines will suffice. Quote only enough that will
remind the person you are sending the message to what you
are posting about. This echo may be transported at the
personal expense of each sysop, and excessive quoting will
only increase all of OUR phone bills.
c. Use of ANY foul language. Again, this is a Support Echo for
the United States Navy. We have to believe all of us should be
able to express our thoughts without having to use ANY foul or
profane language, or lewd remarks of ANY kind.
d. No "Service Bashing" will be tolerated! I.E.: "My service is
better than your service." Nor will we tolerate "Command
Bashing" or "Ratings or Rank Bashing" either.
e. Use of handles, aliases, or nicknames are not allowed in the
Navy Support Echo. Use your real names only please.
f. ANSI graphic screens, signature lines, tag lines, or origin
lines are not allowed in the Navy Support Echo.
4. This is an UNSECURE environment for the posting of any CLASSIFIED
information, materials, or query messages of any kind. Any
information you post here is subject to monitoring for security
breaches and violations. DO NOT POST CLASSIFIED INFORMATION!
a. DO NOT post any information concerning ships locations, pending
operations, troop movements, or any logistical status. There
is an old saying that goes; "Loose Lips, Sink Ships, and get
folks killed.", and it's still true to this very day.
b. If you're unsure about the contents of a message, and whether
it should be considered CLASSIFIED or not, then don't post it.
The NAVY echo travels through International channels across the
globe. Remember, there are folks out there who are still
watching and listening in on everything we do. Don't help make their
jobs any easier!!
c. By the periodic general posting of these echo rules, and in
regards to matters of security breaches, national security, and the
posting of any classified information, the Moderator(s) or their
assigns will NOT be held legally liable for any actions resulting from
such postings which violate these rules, any federal/state laws,
statutes, etc....
5. Stick to the topic of the echo. There are many other echos, such
as the Military Contacts/People (MILITARY_PEOPLE) echo, and
Military History echo (MILHISTORY) that can address broader
uniformed services issues. Please reserve this echo for messages
specific to the United States Navy Department (DON), or of any
other service related topics which you feel would benefit all of us.
a. Advertisements which would result in the sender's own financial
gain are STRICTLY prohibited from posting in this echo. Do not
try and advertise your business ventures, pyramid schemes, or sell
things in this echo. You have been forewarned.
b. Bulletin Board System (BBS) advertisements, and BBS On-Line
notification postings are not allowed. They only add to the
bandwidth of messages we all must transport at the expense of
all of our phone bills. They will be considered off-topic.
6. Let the Moderators do their jobs. If a participant violates any
of the rules above, only the Moderator (or the designated
Co-Moderators in his absence) should respond. Only chaos reigns
when every participant adds their two cents worth, and the echo
becomes cluttered with extra messages that do not add to the
discussion nor the theme of the echo.
7. The Moderator reserves the right to make changes at any time to
these rules as they deem necessary without first consulting the
general public of this support echo, in order to maintain good order
and discipline, and the good will exchange of message posts.
(addendum)
8. The Moderator-in-absentia, ICCS(Ret) Tony Conte, should he return
to Fido and this echo in particular, will be immediately reinstated as
primary moderator of this echo, should he so desire to do so.

or alt.org.promisekeepers from the headers, please forgive me,=20
I am trying to remember, but while senility in a woman of my age
is a sad thing, it is a fact of life I am coming to accept...
