  15. 1. This echo is a support echo for the United States Navy and open to
  16.    anyone who is interested in keeping in contact with shipmates
  17. around   the world, or even just those around the block.  All you must
  18. do is abide by the rules of the echo as presented below.
  19.  
  20. 2. Please don't be easily annoyed.  Think before you post a response
  21.    to a message.  Without the facial expressions or tone of voice,
  22.    what you say may be lost in the meaning of the words you post.  If
  23.    something said here seriously annoys you, type up a reply, and wait
  24.    a day or two before posting it in this echo.  We suggest that you
  25.    re-read your reply message a few times, and editing it a few times
  26.    first before posting it to allow the true meaning of your words to
  27. be clear, concise, and to the point.  Try and keep your personal
  28. feelings from clouding your better judgement.

  30. 3. Don't be excessively annoying.  Our definition of annoying means:
  31.    a. Flames of any sort.  There is no purpose to flame in this
  32.       support echo.  Send all personal Flames via Netmail Only !!
  33.    b. Excessive quotes.  Do not quote an entire message when only
  34.       one or two lines will suffice.  Quote only enough that will
  35.       remind the person you are sending the message to what you
  36.       are posting about.  This echo may be transported at the
  37.       personal expense of each sysop, and excessive quoting will
  38.       only increase all of OUR phone bills.
  39.    c. Use of ANY foul language.  Again, this is a Support Echo for
  40.       the United States Navy.  We have to believe all of us should be
  41.       able to express our thoughts without having to use ANY foul or
  42.       profane language, or lewd remarks of ANY kind.
  43.    d. No "Service Bashing" will be tolerated! I.E.: "My service is
  44.       better than your service."  Nor will we tolerate "Command
  45.       Bashing" or "Ratings or Rank Bashing" either.
  46.    e. Use of handles, aliases, or nicknames are not allowed in the
  47.       Navy Support Echo.  Use your real names only please.
  48.    f. ANSI graphic screens, signature lines, tag lines, or origin
  49. lines are not allowed in the Navy Support Echo.

  51. 4. This is an UNSECURE environment for the posting of any CLASSIFIED
  52.    information, materials, or query messages of any kind.  Any
  53.    information you post here is subject to monitoring for security
  54.    breaches and violations.  DO NOT POST CLASSIFIED INFORMATION!
  55.    a. DO NOT post any information concerning ships locations, pending
  56.       operations, troop movements, or any logistical status.  There
  57.       is an old saying that goes; "Loose Lips, Sink Ships, and get
  58.       folks killed.",  and it's still true to this very day.
  59.    b. If you're unsure about the contents of a message, and whether
  60.       it should be considered CLASSIFIED or not, then don't post it.
  61.       The NAVY echo travels through International channels across the
  62.       globe.  Remember, there are folks out there who are still
  63. watching and listening in on everything we do.  Don't help make their
  64. jobs any easier!!
  65.    c. By the periodic general posting of these echo rules, and in
  66. regards to matters of security breaches, national security, and the
  67. posting of any classified information, the Moderator(s) or their
  68. assigns will NOT be held legally liable for any actions resulting from
  69. such postings which violate these rules, any federal/state laws,
  70. statutes, etc....

  72. 5. Stick to the topic of the echo.   There are many other echos, such
  73.    as the Military Contacts/People (MILITARY_PEOPLE) echo, and
  74. Military    History echo (MILHISTORY) that can address broader
  75. uniformed services issues.  Please reserve this echo for messages
  76. specific to the United    States Navy Department (DON), or of any
  77. other service related topics which you feel would benefit all of us.

  79.    a. Advertisements which would result in the sender's own financial
  80.       gain are STRICTLY prohibited from posting in this echo.  Do not
  81. try  and advertise your business ventures, pyramid schemes, or sell
  82. things in this echo.  You have been forewarned.
  83.  
  84.    b. Bulletin Board System (BBS) advertisements, and BBS On-Line
  85.       notification postings are not allowed.  They only add to the
  86.       bandwidth of messages we all must transport at the expense of
  87.       all of our phone bills.  They will be considered off-topic.

  89. 6. Let the Moderators do their jobs.  If a participant violates any
  90.    of the rules above, only the Moderator (or the designated
  91. Co-Moderators    in his absence) should respond.  Only chaos reigns
  92. when every participant adds their two cents worth, and the echo
  93. becomes cluttered with extra messages that do not add to the
  94. discussion nor the theme of the echo.

  96. 7. The Moderator reserves the right to make changes at any time to
  97. these rules as they deem necessary without first consulting the
  98. general public of this support echo, in order to maintain good order
  99. and discipline, and the good will exchange of message posts.

  102. 8.  The Moderator-in-absentia, ICCS(Ret) Tony Conte, should he return
  103. to Fido and this echo in particular, will be immediately reinstated as
  104. primary moderator of this echo, should he so desire to do so.
