My experience has been that Mac/PC/Amiga etc. modems are essentially the
same, though it is important to have the appropriate interface or cable.
Most Mac modems are in fact PC modems with a different cable. I used a PC
modem with both my Amiga and C64 with a ConvertaCom adapter, which seems to
work just dandy.

This is true, but I didn't want folks to think that when the power goes
out, all is lost. Also, your statement indicated that there was an on/off
switch on the RAMLink and that also isn't the case. Also, the RAMLink is
alot more stable as far as permanent storage goes, compared to a standard
REU. The battery backup and external power supply helps to ensure the
retension of the files on the RAMLink.

As long as you had the battery backup and checked your computer at least
once a day, you would be safe. I had that problem once myself, only it was
my daughter that switched off the ISOBAR. It was the first time I found
out how long the battery lasted. hehe
Fortunately I do regular backups and didn't loose anything important. Like
any device, whether it be permanent or volatile storage, you should always
do regular backups.. :)

You can if you run the CMD in parallel. In order to do that, you need a
RAMLink, which has two passthrough ports. One of which will support a
Swiftlink. This way you have the speed of the Lt. Kernal, the
compatibility of the CMD and the ability to run the CMD
HD/RAMLink/Swiftlink and even an REU all at the same time. The only thing
you'll lacking are the Lt. Kernal utilities. :)

Hmm, I thought the CMD HD did support CP/M. Its just the RAMLink that
doesn't support it, or so I thought.

Hmm, I never use Maverick. I just use fcopy, which with the RAMLink/HD
combo, is extremely fast. With the time and date stamping of the CMD, you
can also write a backup program that only backups the files that have been
updated since your last backup. This is a big time saver, as your only
backing up the files that need it, not the whole HD.
I would kill for the FIND command and some of the other utilities built
into the Lt. K, for the CMD. While the CMD does have a nice wedge and
subpartioning, some of the programming utilities on the Lt. Kernal would be
a nice addition for the CMD. :)

Subject: Top Desk
I have Top Desk (from Germany) for GEOS and I LOVE IT!!
Another commie asked me where he could order a copy for himself, and I
realized that I did not have anything that told me the address for
Quincy Softworks (which is who distributes it here in the US).
I have my original Top Desk disk, but it does not have the address on
it.
Help!

Subject: ANOTHER? apology to Gaelyne
Yes it's true. I owe Gaelyne a public apology for accidentally making
public a person-to-person email (I did not note that fact that it was,
indeed, a not-public email).
I am in the habit of doing most of my commodore correspondence through
this mailing list, so when I found that I needed to apologize to
Gaelyne (the 1ST time) I did so through the mailing list -- I made the
offense publicly, thus the apology (I (wrongly) figured) should be
made publicly, as well.
Therefore, I publicly apologize for the public apology that should
have been made privately.
I apologize for any inconvenience I have caused.
Sincerely
Chris McLeod (of the clan MacLeod)

All is forgiven, Chris. Apology accepted. Now lets chat about
our Commodores, ok?
Are you using a C64 or C128?
Cheers,
Gaelyne

Michael,
I forgot about the Ramlink with the pass thru port, mainly because
of the LTK host adapter really hates it.
As for running CP/M on the CMD, I have not tried yet (due to time
limitations), but I do know that it runs great and fast on the LTK.
BTW, both the CMD and LTK's will run in either 6 or 128 mode.
