- I recently got a used Omitronix RS-232 interface and purchased a new Bocamodem
- 2400e external modem. I can't seem to be able to address the modem. It uses
- the HS led (hi speed) as the power led. this is the only LED that lights up.
- The modem does not respond to AT commands typed from the keyboard. Is there
- anything special I need to do to get this interface/modem combo to work? I'm
- used to a 1670. If there is any special command I need enter, someone please
- let me know, as I lost as to an answer. Any help would be appreciated.

- I have tried several term progams with the interface. The one I use most is
- CCGMS. I thought that no matter what term I used, if I am in terminal mode I
- could address the modem with "AT" commands, which I cannot. Also, yes JBEE it
- has a two posi- tion switch, "printer" and "modem". I tried both positions.

- change the baud rate and modem setting, seeing as how you upgraded from

- What are the modem dip switches for and what are they set to? In thinking

- An informal discussion on the LineLink 144e modem. This is a 14,400 bps modem

- Hello, folks! I am quite new to GEnie (so please forgive any slips), but I
- have been a FidoNet user for a few months. I frequent the CBM, CBM-128 and CBM-
- GEOS Echoes. This is where I found out about this cheap 14,4 modem - more and
- more C= users were buying this modem for high-speed communications.
-
- I do know for a fact that with SwiftLink, a DB 9-25 cable, and the right
- settings for either DesTerm (2.00 & 2.01) or Dialogue, this modem works just
- fine with the 64 and 128. I just got the modem (two days to ship from Ohio to
- Alberta) and am waiting for the SL...
-
- The price of $99 plus shipping is just unnbeatable!! Such that I unwittingly
- convinced one of the RTC members to order one on the spot. This unit comes
- with a Mac-specific cable and software disk, along with a pretty but
- incomplete manual. The case is all-white, and is approximately the size of a
- 1541-II drive (but a bit lower).
-
- I'm sure there will be people anxious to find out more about this bargain
- modem. New info will be posted here when available. I just wonder how the guys
- at CMD will feel about one of their frequent customers spreading news like
- this... :-)

- Well, I ordered a LineLink by calling the MacWarehouse, and asking them if
- they sold an IBM version, instead of the Mac version. They said "No", but they
- transfered me to their IBM division, and I got an IBM model!! I didn't need
- the cable that I orderedwith my SwiftLink because the IBM model comes with a
- db 9 adapter.
-
- I've had some MINOR problems getting used to setting the registers, but on the
- whole, the LineLink has performed very well. My only complaint is the poor
- "s" register documentation... none!!
-
- I'm using Dialogue 2.2d-SL, and it works 100% better with rts/cts implemented
- than with x-on/x-off.
-
- I regularly am able to log on to a local Amiga board at 14.4, with rock-solid
- file transfers.

- To Kirk Cowen:
-
- I must agree: the documentation to the LineLink 144e modem is really sub-
- standard. Luckily, I had an old 2400-bps modem with S-register tables, and
- they seemed to match my LineLink fairly well. (I understand that this is
- probably a coincidence...) If you check the C= uploads over the past week, you
- will find a text file in .SFX format that fully documents the registers - this
- came from the manufacturer of the LL144e itself. Might be of use!

- ARQ = Automatic Repeat Request
- Error control where the modem will automatically resend or receive new
- data packets if there was a mistake in the previous one.
-
- Basically the modems send the information in packets with a CRC and if
- the CRC does not check out, the sending modem resends the packet until
- it gets it right. Best thing is the modem does not resend a whole packet
- but just from the bad frame forward.
-
- F1 = online echo off (full duplex)
- &N8=14.4 bps
- &H3 = use both hardware and software flow control

-
- If you want a registered copy then call and mention you seen this BBS on

- Just leave feedback and I will be sure to get the program to you once it has
- been released. This is a very neat BBS package.. Auto BBS Maint, Call-back
- Validator, Games, Utilites, Files, etc.. Hopefully Networking in the next

- It sounds like your terminal program is not handling 2400 very well.
- Line noise would cause much worse than what you are seeing. A program
- that can't handle 2400 baud as well as it should would cause what you are
- seeing. I would suggest trying a different program, perhaps DesTerm or

- That information is in one of these DesTerm topics I know because I

- I have a metropolitan service in my area. It is like $30 a month, but
- I have 2 teenagers in my house and my wife's family is VERY close, so
- it has proven to be well worth it for just that. And I call different
- boards locally that are not quite local as far as the phone company
- iis concerned, but the metropolitan service covers them. Another way
- you can cut time down online is to do some of the stuff ofline. For
- example, using RTCmaster, you could create a log on script to log on,
- capture your mail and new BB messages, then log you off. Then you could
- spend time offline reading all of that, and even creating replies which
- you could then call back and use the *up command to send. Howie posted
- a very nicely detailed description of how to do this elsewhere in the BB.
- I would direct you there, but I don't remember where it is at at the

- about anyone, is to read the instructions as it were for GEnie. There
- have always been shortcuts and ways of doing things to speed up things you
- do here. Learn them to minimize the time and maximize what you do.

- haven't done business with either, I can only give you the "dope" on AT&T).
- RAM is $8.70 per month, and thatcovers your first 60 minutes, any additional

- savings isn't quite as much (but there is some) between 5-10 pm. This plan
- suits me ideally because all my network activity is done in the 12-1 am range.
- RWO charges different rates for various countries, but 99% of my calls outside

- only $.18 per minute.
