- I am using Lineages v1.0 geneology program for the C64 computer into a Star
- NCX1000c printer. The program appears to print continously over the
- perforations ont the "Charts" part of the program. I have been unable to
- correct this problem using all parameters available. Any help appreciated.

- Select #5 from the main menu to make changes to the parameters. Parameter 'h'
- sets up the number of lines per page. If you use '0' (zero) continuous
- printing over the perfs will happen. There are 66 lines to a full page so try
- some value lower than 66.

- Whoa......
-
- When you print charts you want Lineages to print over paper perforation!
-
- At least, I do...
-
- I often get chart printouts that run 10 and more pages. I purposely put
- scotch tape along the perfortrations so that the 10 pages can be "exploded"
- into one cohesive long document.
-
- For other type of printing, like NAMES, you would want to skip over
- perforations.
-
- BTW, you *CAN* change the program's default setting of the " ! " for a
- vertical bar, and instead use the real vertical bar. It makes for a much
- cleaner looking print-out.

- Thanks for all of the ideas. Mark, I had already tried the 'h' option on the
- charts menu, but the program continued to print over the perforations no
- matter what I set the page length to (55,60, etc.). My wordprocessor does not
- have this problem so I think I may have a bug in my program. Do you know it
- there is an upgrade to Lineages v1.0 Quinsept,Inc.? I tried to contact the
- comany by mail over a year ago but never got a reply. I wonder if they are out

- M.BALCH, Lineages V1.0 is the only version ever sold by Quinsept for the C64.
- You can find out if they are still in business by calling their 1-800-637-ROOT
- number, I suppose. I don't know if they are or not. Might also try finding
- out by asking in the GENEALOGY RT.
-
- I'll pull out my copy of Lineages and run it to see what I can come up with
- for the printing over the perforations thing. May take me a while since I
- haven't run it for so long I'll have to re-learn how to use it ;>

- Aww, nuts! I just started working with the Lineages Charts prg and while
- reading the manual over I noticed in the margin I had written myself a note.
- Never guess what it says. Selection 'h' to change the lines per page
- parameter is NOT for changing the lines per page but instead has to do
- with changing print pitch. It's a typo in the manual. The program *does*
- correctly ask for the print size though.
-
- What this means is, no, there isn't any way to get charts to skip the perfs.
- Sorry.
-
- I ran across another note to myself in my manual that refers to selecting
- a print size. Seems that only a print pitch of 10 or 16.5 may be allowed.
- I may be wrong about this, but I seem to remember that the program will
- accept (visually anyway) any print pitch, but if it's not 10 or 16.5 then
- 16.5 will be used by default. Like I said, I may be wrong on that since I
- didn't give it a try, just going by memory and the brief note I made in
- the manual ages ago ;)

- Mark,
-
- As I said earlier, most users, myself included, will choose to print charts in
- a continous form, or in other words, without skipping over the paper
- perforation.
-
- To print a chart any other way would not allow for the lineages' lines to be
- so easilly followed.
-
- These charts can run multiple pages, and it is nice to see them spread out on
- a floor.
-
- At the risk of being redundant, other forms, like NAMES, are nice to print
- WITH printing skipping paper perforations.
-
- Why would anyone want to skip perforations in charts anyway?

- As you can see (Herne Data Systems), this is by Miklos G. It is very
- good at fixing the most common problem I have experienced with the 1581
- disks, namely problems on the directory sector at 40,0, which is what
- you should try to enter here. It may not fix your problem, but if there
- is a way to fix it, this is the program that will do it. None of the
- others I've ever seen have been up to the task.
-
- If you find this ineffective, when you post back here, let us know
- exactly what the error is that you are getting. Perhaps there are other
- approaches to be explored, and finally, do you know how to use a sector
- editor?
-
- Your problem actually is the very reason I have never fully trusted the
- 1581 drive. It is a snake whose bite is very costly. I've lost a LOT
- of disks to it, and before I learned the valuable lesson of backing
- stuff up frequently, a lot of valuable files.

- First off, you're going to need to get your hands on the Colortone Keyboard
- Program disk. That holds the programming to get the board to actually work.
- After you get your hands on that, you can play either the tunes on that set-
- up, or, you can get other companion programs. MusiCalc was set-up to use this
- piece of hardware. I know MusiCalc is available from Software Support
- International, but I don't know about whether or not the Colortone Keyboard
- and program are still available. Bare Bones Software have used copies of
- MusiCalc 1 & 3 for $9 each. Their BBS number is 304-529-7050. By the way,
- yes, I do have this piece of hardware and the companion program.

-
- I would like to strip this program of its copy protection so that I can

- The Program as it sits now can be put on a Ramlink by itself but, because of

- Also, the program doesn't allow partition changes :(

- Word Writer's dictionary is stored as direct access (random access) data.
- Because of this, that disk can only be MCOPY'd to a 1541 or 1571 partition.
- You can change to the partition where you have copied this using the disk
- command option, which will allow you to send a CMD device change partition

- Bob,
- It has been a couple of years since I last used WW128, but I believe I
- snuck the channel commands in through the directory command. I had the
- same problem with Partner 128 not working properly on my (flat) C-128
- so I snuck in the partition commands through one of the file access
- features.
-
- While we are on the subject, Timeworks released a program that deprotected
- their Datamanager series and their later versions were unprotected.
-
- I know the unprotected Swiftcalc 128 versions were V16.0 -> and I sold
- them to people on GEnie, same with my WW128 and Datamanager 128 files.
- Otherwise I would help you over this bump, I know it must be
- frustrating!
-
- In the "for what it is worth" department, I always thought Timeworks had
- the most reasonable cost and approach to upgrades (only $7.50). I just

-
- THIS is EXACTLY the COMMAND CHANNEL access capability referred to.
-
- After you do the WW command for this, try sending: cp3
-
- Or, whatever partition you want to bounce to. Or, try sending:
- cd//dirname
-
- Of course, use the names of YOUR directories.
-
- Also give a try, and send: t-ra
-
- Follow this up with: @
-
- If WW reports error channel results, you'll have the current time and
- date returned and displayed.
-
- Once you access the command channel within WW, you no longer need
- to use the @ prefix. In fact, it MUST be omitted.
-
- It appears that WW does give you full partition and directory jumping
