- Hello, Everybody!! :)
-
- I have a friend who has come to me with a problem. He has a C-64 original,
- an original disk drive, a FastLoad cart, and I'm not sure which printer (I
- believe it is a C-unit also). At any rate, he is using his system to wrtite a
- book of poetry, but has approached me on the possibility of there being a
- word processor out there that would handle all that he needed of it. He wants
- one that can handle ANTONYMS (whatever they are). The first thing that
- crossed my mind was that he needed either GEOS and GEOS-Write, or else a C-
- 128!! :)
-
- Those of you who have been long-term Commodore users, could you please give
- me some enlightenment for him, as well as places where we can get these
- rpograms, that I can get him up to snuff for what he needs, please.
-
- ANY and ALL comments and feedback would and will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!
-
- Thank you all, EVERYONE!!! ***FALCONER***

- I reccomend TWS (The Write Stuff), I'm not sure if it will handle Antonyms,
- but it is a very powerful word processor. You can get this from: Busy Bee
- Software P.O. Box 2959 Lompoc, Ca 93438 (805) 736-8184
-
- The 64 version is $19.95 + S&H and comes with manual, keyboard overlay. :>

- I second the suggestion for TWS. And aren't antonyms just opposites?
- Like synonyms are the same? At any rate, TWS 128 has a spell checker
- tho I don't know about the 64 version... I would expect it would also.
- It is definitely the one I use all the time. I was a hard sell to
- switch from Speedscript but it sold me.

- TWS is my second most used word processing program. You probably can guess
- what my first choice is. The nice thing about TWS is the ability to change
- and modify embedded commands, ASCII vs PETASCII change, etc. Also if you want
- a hoot the 64 TWS can be purchased with a Talking version. If you have time
- you can set it up so there are 8 different "voices". YOu could take a piece
- of fiction and have it talk to you. A talking drama could unfold right from
- your 64. R.Eric Lee has made a fun program.

- I have heard alot of good things about The Write Stuff. It sounds like
- a very good word processing program for the 64. I have never used it
- though.
-
- Geos is sooooo... slooooooow..... thooooooough.... I have been known
- to fall asleep waiting for it to flip to the right side of the page.
- But Geos is worth the wait for the font quality. GeoWrite 64 has a very
- good spellchecker too.
-
- A processor I have used a lot is Word Writer 6. Easy to use. No copy
- protection
- . Works off my Ramlink. It has a 85,000 word spell checker and, get this,
- a 60,000 word thesaurus that is actually very fast in finding words.
- It is also easy to use. Good fonts also included.
- I think CMD sells it.

- WordWriter 64 is limited to drive 9 and drive 8, but works off the Ramlink
- in swap mode. It has Dos commands that support switching partitions on
- CMD devices also. The program has a install program that defines what drive

- If I ever want to use GeoWrite 64 again I would write it with WordWriter 6
- and then convert it into a Geo Text Scrap and import it!
- Even if the screen is only 40 col wide it takes forever to cursor down the
- page.... When I type letters in GeoWrite 64 I am usually a couple letters

- If you'd like more specifics about TWS... TWS will work from any drive and
- recognise any drive including a RamLink... It will load text written by ANY
- other word processor, with the exception of GEOS which is a world all its
- own... It also has a spell checker with an nice option of creating a
- dictionary for your own words/abreviations not in the main dictionary
-
- If you want to move into the features of the 128 version... you also have the
- ability to insert graphics with Illustrator I & II into your text. Illustrator
- II uses FGM (Fun Graphics Machine for the 64) to create and graphic you like
- to be put into your text.
-
- Both Word Processor versions have the ability to save text in either petascii -
- ascii or screen code. You can also encrypt a letter or document to keep nosey
- people from looking at what you have. A rather unique feature.

- I'm very suprised that no one has yet suggested Paperclip III. When you
- purchase it you get both 64 and 128 versions, a relatively large spelling
- checker, a built-in terminal program, and many other features. Best of all,
- there is no copy protection at all, and it can be used on any drive. I use it
- on my HD in a Native mode partition, and keep my documents organized in
- subdirectories. If you use a REU (128 mode only) you can store all overlays
- in it (terminal, spelling checker, file conversion utility, etc.) and the
- dictionary. Then you can enable on-the-fly spell checking.
-
- Bottom line: for quick and dirty editing, I use Zed-128. For outstanding
- graphic quality, I use (grudgingly) geoWrite and Perfect Print LQ. For
- anything else, I use PaperClip III (and if I had a laser printer, I'd probably
- use PaperClip instead of Perfect Print LQ).

-
- BTW, it is listed in the Spring 1994 catalog from Software Support

- Ed, Word Writer saves, load and merge its file by hitting f/1 and then asks
- you to hit "s" for save, "l" for load and "m" merge to merge another file to
- the end of the file you are in. Also, when you are saving a file and one of
- the same name exists on the disk, you are then asked if you want to overwrite

-
- I probably didn't make it clear what I wanted. When I said I didn't
- know how Word Writer saved its files, I meant in which format (i.e. in
- screen code, ASCII, PETSCII, etc.)
-
- On another note, I figured out a better solution than hardcoding all
- these formats into my program. I coded in a 'learn' function so that
- users can just direct my program to one of the files created by a specific
- word processor and get the load address like that. The user still needs
- to enter a carriage return value, but since I suspect most will use
- chr$(31) like SpeedScript and The Write Stuff, I made that the default.
- And even that is not critical anyway. Bottom line, I don't really need
- all of the information I originally requested. But thanks.
-
- I do have a need for something else though... I bought a copy of
- SuperScript 128 which I only yesterday tried to load. The disk is trash.
- Is there anyone who, if I send them my disk, can repair it with a good
- copy. I'll send the whole package to keep things on the up and up.
- I *do* have the commercial disk, manual, etc. Just that the disk is
- messed up. I want the prog for my daughter.

- Here is my review/comparison of a couple of race car simulations: I am not a
- huge game player, but over time I have used several race games. I have used
- Pole Position, Test Drive 2, Outrun, and Stunt Track Racer. Pole Position
- doesnt rate with the rest. Test Drive and Test Drive 2 have pretty good
- playability, but steering is awkward. I like to use the manual shifting
- option- it gives a more realistic feel to the game, including blowing the
- engine if you mis-shift at high rpms. They have good graphic displays.
- Outrun has good graphics too, but has better playability-steering, that is.
- It doesnt include a manual shift option, though. I like the screen images
- better than TD/TD2 during play. But my favorite is Stunt Track Racer. This
- puts your special track car on elevated tracks, opposing a computer foe (1 of
- approx. 12) from one of several echelons of skill level. The screen effects
- during play are very aggressive, and take awhile to adjust to. The other car
- is quite a challenge to beat. They each have personality and style. The
- tracks have surprises such as jumps and uneven levels (side-to-side) that are
- hard to describe, but are exciting to try and navigate while beating another
- car. A few crashes are tolerated, but chances of winning a heat are almost
- nil with more than one. As you elevate your skills you attain new track
- challenges with vastly more challenging jumps and other juicy stuff. I bore
- rather quickly with Test Drive 1 & 2, but not so with Outrun; but I can really
- get into Stunt Track Racer. The only feature I would add to any/all the games
- is to have two human cars head-to-head. None of the games have that
- available. Stunt Track Racer has a multi-player season, which is a nice
- alternative, but not the ultimate. Please feel free to add your reviews in
- follow-up messages (especially if you know a good multi-player simultaneous
