Using the SuperCPU with a 64 is much quicker than doing development
work on a 128 now. When I use the 128, it feels kinda sluggish after
using the SuperCPU for almost 3 months. It will definitely speed up
development time. As an example, once all the source code files are
assembled for geoFAX 2.0, it still takes 7.5 minutes to use geoLinker
to link all the .rel files together. (this is a big program) With the
SuperCPU it is done in less than one minute. At 1mhz it takes almost
16 minutes. So you see if I change something in the program and want to
test it out, I won't be tied up waiting while the computer is working.
In one minute I can try it out. Small programs just zip right along
with geoAssembler and geoLinker. They are done before you can take anothe=
r
sip of coffee.

CMD also feared this with me! They have limited me as to my knowledge of
the SuperCPU at least until it gets released. I admit that I could get
sidetracked into experimenting with it's real capabilities if I was
made fully aware of them. CMD wanted me to concentrate on getting the
GEOS software finished first. I did, and now it's time to play!

BASIC has not been changed for compatibility reasons. Any programming to
take advantage of the extended capability (at this point in time) will
have to be written specifically into new programs. But CMD has done
an outstanding job of making this thing work fast and efficient. And it
really deals with the hardware that it is plugged into quite well. As for
cartridges that will work with it, such as your COMAL cartridge, I can't
answer that one personally. Some cartridges will not work, depending on
the nature of the cartridge. In the SuperCPU manual, it states that
cartridges that pull the GAME line low and the EXROM line high will
not work. These include Action/Replay, Super Snapshot, Partner 64, most
IEEE cartidges, the Lt. Kernal cartridge, and some game cartridges.
These can still be used, but only with the SuperCPU 'enable/disable' swit=
ch
turned off.

Other thing to try would be to change the carrier frequency from time to

Once per frame should suffice. (Of course, you should make sure to use
high frequencies only - at least double of the sampling frequency).

I've been working on an upgrade to my Karma assembler, busy
porting it to the 64/Super CPU, and I must say, the speed increase
from a productivity side, is breath taking. I run most everything
out of a expanded REU, so my assembly times are quite low to begin
with, but running under the accelerator is awe inspiring.
I've always been fickle about the speed hype in the clone scene, but
cutting my assembly times by a factor of 4 is a huge boost of
productivity. Overall the thing that impress's me is how easily the
cartridge fits into the system - completely seamless. Good code
runs without modification.
AJ> I'd really like to see Craig Bruce's
AJ> productivity accellerated, but I also fear he may be seduced into
AJ> writing 65C816 specific code.
Fear? I pray that he does. 65816 is so much fun to work with,
there will be no way to keep a programmer from working with it.
Yes, I swore I would keep to generic 6502 code, but that lasted
about a week, and I'm sure it is going to be the same story for
everyone else. We've programmed the 6502 for well over a decade on
the 64, and it is getting tired. Keeping a 6502 programmers hands
off the 816 opcode set, is like asking him not to look at a naked
woman walking down the street:)
The 64 is continuing to fade (insert your favorite opinion on
the subject here) - the only thing that could possibly change the
slow rusting of the 64/128 is the Super CPU. It is the first major
system upgrade since the 128. A Super CPU with 4-8meg of ram on it,
could breathe life back into our platforms more than anything we can
imagine. Combine the SCPU with Maurice's awesome project, and the
64 will live to see the next millennium. So when I say I hope CBruce
programs for the 816, it is out of sheer survival of our platform.
As I mentioned, everyone has an opinion on the subject, but the
64 is doing a Soviet Union - slowly rusting away with many of our
best users being "seduced by the dark side". If the trend
continues, we will wake up a few years down the road and wonder what
happened to all the users. The Super CPU (nick named Daytona) is
the one and only product that could possibly reverse the road we are
traveling down.

There are no new opcodes to specifically address faster math
operations, but operations can be carried out on 16bit registers and
memory. Thus numerous cycles are saved by virtue of the 16bit
calculations. For example, the following two routines to the same,
only the new 65816 does it almost twice as fast (cycle for cycle)

AJ> Is it easy for users to patch the RAM shadowed ROM code?
No. hands off and don't touch is the golden rule. Who knows what
CMD can come up with for that ram OS in the future...
AJ> What type of ROM does it use?
Close to a virgin 64 Jdos ROM. To attempt to change the Jdos OS
would have meant major programming and beta testing. I'm glad Mark
decided to stick to the tried and true.
AJ> How fast will it run my COMAL 2.0 cartridge?
AJ> Or more to the point, how can I run COMAL 2.0 at full SuperCPU speed?
Ah, plug comal into Super CPU pass through and turn on computer - no
fuss at all. Er, why do you ask, what would be the problem with comal?

The green power LED (and most of the logic chips) is driven off the +5
volts and the motor off the +12 volt line. My best guess why the 5
volts is going away is the bridge rectifier. There are two of them and
they both run hot enough to burn you. They sometimes go intermittant
as you describe. Replacements are available at Radio Shack... change
'em both. It's only a few bucks. A bad regulator IC is another
possibility, but less likely.

I am looking for a CD, which I possessed a long time ago:
xx Classic Games for C64.
The CD was packed with a sound-kabel (mono) and an interface to
the cass-port on the c64.
One could choose the track on the cd-player, then play it
and the same time activate Load (from Tape) on the C64.
The Programms where then loaded.
Does anyone know where to get such a thing ??

Hi.. I've been reading up about what my C128 can do and I'm quite=20
surprised at what it is capable of. But since I haven't touched my
C128 in year (after moving over to my IBM). However, I have a couple

1) I am looking at linking my C128 to my Linux box through a serial cable
and I've heard of people running modems at 38400 when the 128 supposed=
ly
can only do 9600. Now 9600 will do for now but I was wondering if anyo=
ne
can supply me with a circuit diagram on what I would need to do.
2) Also upgrading my 128 to 256k .. anyone have a link or two to another
circuit diagram explaining how its done?
3) Also the 8563 Video Ram .. being 16k or 64k. Does the C128D have the =
64k
or does it have the 16k? If so, where can I find a link to a diagram =
to
how me how to upgrade it?
4) And for my trust C64 does anyone have a copy of 64Mon I could have? :-=
)
I'm sure if I spent a couple fo days hunting the web I could find somethi=
ng,
but I thought this would be quicker and probably more helpful.
And on a lighter note, is there any Commodore enthusiasts in Perth, Weste=

Australia? Everyone around where I live thinks the C64 is totally fucked,
but then I look at their Pentium 133 with 32mb RAM running Doom and
chuckle to myself :)

Large binary posts do not belong in unmoderated discussion groups.
I run a program that searchs for, and issues advisory cancels for,
large binaries in the akr, biz, comp, misc, news, rec, and sci
hierarchies.
I have issued 55 cancels for large binary files (average size 81,372.3
characters - total size 4,475,476 characters) posted to 7 different
unmoderated discussion groups in the comp, news, and rec hierarchies as
follows:
42 rec.sport.pro-wrestling
7 comp.windows.ui-builders.teleuse
2 rec.music.artists.kiss
1 rec.toys.cars
1 rec.ponds
1 news.newusers.questions
1 comp.sys.cbm
This pointer is being posted to each affected group listed above.
Follow-ups are directed to news.admin.net-abuse.misc.
If you want to see exactly which file was deleted from a particular
group, read the full report in news.admin.net-abuse.announce. The
full report can also be found in alt.nocem.misc and alt.retromod.
Look for AR505 in the subject, or, if your reader supports it, use
this URL: news:ARMM-Report-505@redpoll.mrfs.oh.us
The criteria used to search for this batch of large binaries were:
NEWSGROUPS: Unmoderated akr, biz, comp, misc, news, rec, or sci
(except for comp.binaries.apple2, comp.bugs.2bsd,
and rec.games.bolo)
BINARY: base64, binhex, uuencode, and xbtoa encoded files, etc.
SIZE: > 100,000 characters [(size * (# of parts - .5)), if multi-part]
If you must post a binary to Usenet, please post it *only* to an
appropriate binaries newsgroup such as alt.binaries.misc, and do *not*
crosspost it to non-binaries groups. Then, if you like, post something
in the appropriate discussion group telling people where to find the
binary in the binaries group (a pointer to the binary). This will
permit news administrators and users to decide for themselves whether
to receive the binary files.
Please direct public feedback to news.admin.net-abuse.misc and private
feedback to red@redpoll.mrfs.oh.us. Thanks.
Best wishes,
Dick

Carl, don't know about Autodule but the NUROMANCER game definately
requires you to look up the password in a code wheel that came with
the origional... As a work-around, run the following c64 program
on a back-up copy of side #1 only.
1 open2,8,2,"#2"
2 open15,8,15,"u1,2,0,12,3"
3 print#15,"m-w"chr$(75)chr$(5)chr$(3)chr$(234)chr$(234)chr$(234)
4 print#15,u2,2,0,12,3":close2:close15
This will alter your back-up disk so that the program will ignore the
password check. (At least, it worked on mine...) This takes some of
the "realism" out of the game but at least you can play it...
Your welcome,
Radioactive Warrior

I've inherited a BOCA 2400 bps modem, but it has no power supply. Could
someone tell me the voltage I'll need?
